Skipping steps 1 and 2 of installation

#1

Post by chaycock » Mon Aug 07, 2017 6:23 pm

I am down to 4 days of Rovi guide data, if I want to install epg123 without having to go through all of the tuner/tv setup again (If I skip steps 1 & 2 of the installation), do I need to disable the "Automatic guide data download" option in WMC, or will that also disable the epg123 download as well?

I'm asking because I'm wondering what will keep WMC from continuing to download Rovi data unless that option is turned off since I don't want both Rovi and epg123 data concurrently.

My first suggestion would of course be to perform Steps 1 and 2 if you don't want both Rovi and epg123 data concurrently. But yes, I think disabling the "Automatically download Windows Media Center data" option will do what you are asking. It won't interfere any with the operation of epg123. EPG123 uses its own task to perform its updates.

Thanks Gary! On the flip side, if I do a complete install (steps 1 & 2), and left the "Automatic Gude Data Download" on, would that cause problems with WMC trying to download Rovi epg? I'm asking because I don't see anywhere in your docs that you direct us to disable those two options, even for the clean install.

I believe the answer to that is that, in steps 1 and 2, you decline the TOS for Rovi, so Rovi won't attempt to download data, even with the "Automatic Guide Data Download" option ticked.

That is what I figured, but just wanted to make sure.

Correct. Since the Program Guide ToS was denied, you don't select a lineup from Rovi to download. So when the update runs, there is no guide information to download because it doesn't know what it should be downloading.
