v1.1.11 Release

#1

Post by garyan2 » Sat Jul 29, 2017 4:50 am

Minor update with the exception of including a tool to convert Rovi recording requests into EPG123 recording requests.

Man I can't keep up! What was wrong with 1.1.8? It hasn't missed a beat since I figured out my UPS was preventing the task from running.

 I would say for current users from 1.1.8 to 1.1.11 ... not much benefit. The inclusion of station logos with cropping and resizing would be the main driver to upgrade. That and getting rid of the warnings in the trace.log and event log that an update is available.

The big improvements are geared toward new installs. I'm in the forever loop of trying to make it even easier to make the leap.

Gotcha. I'm impressed with the logos I have now. I haven't noticed any that seem out of range as far as size goes. I'm just happy that the colors were fixed so I can see them! Before I could only see some of them.

"For the new adapters to EPG123 from Rovi,"

I believe it should be "adopters of".

Congrats on the transition tool!

Can you provide a little more detail on how it works and what it works with?

For instance, does it convert actor-based Series?

Also, are you able to provide any further info on the mysterious "active project" to "refresh the look of the guide"?

If updating to the newest version do we need to uninstall the previous version first? Just curious on the best update procedure as to not Bork my current setup.

No need to uninstall, the installer just copies over the existing install regardless of version.

I'll try to describe what all is involved for this tool.

Database:
I have set up a couple virtual machines with WMC setup using both Rovi and EPG123; one for west coast DirecTV and one for east coast DISH.
  • I scan each series in the database for the Rovi series
  • I query the series for dates, times, and channels any episode of that Rovi series is shown
  • I query the EPG123 lineup channel, date, and time from above
  • I do some string manipulation to try and normalize both the Rovi series title and the EPG123 series title
  • I then run it through an algorithm to give a percent confidence the titles are the same which is the number of characters that are correct divided by number of characters in the title
  • If the percent confidence is >= 85%, it is added to the database
So basically, if Rovi and EPG123 both have the same series title, on the same channel, at the same time, this is considered a positive match. A database entry is then created of the Rovi series UID and the EPG123 series ID. The database is stored on the EPG123 website so when the tool is opened it gets downloaded and uses the latest version.

The above is only needed for the series requests. WishLists (actors, directors, keywords, ...) transfer directly since no UIDs are involved.

I assume it does all those steps only after it does a database query to see if it already has the mapping from someone else doing it?

I didn't realize that actors, etc. are similar to keywords, I thought each actor was assigned an ID and that was used, but I guess not...

Nice to see the max tuner unlocker feature. Do you plan to replace all third party tools? :D

What is this guide enhancement project you mention? I had a look around but couldn't find anything.

Forgive me if this has been discussed. I'm pretty new to epg123. FWIW I wouldn't have known about the new version if it weren't for the fact that it was in the event log. For me that is a feature...

Yah, there's nothing in-your-face about updates being available. There is a notification in the trace.log file, the event log, the EPG123 Configuration GUI will display an update available as well as the About Guide in WMC... no pop-ups or system notifications.

You can also set up to get e-mail notifications of errors or warnings in the event log like new version warnings if you want.

I use this service to keep tabs on Gary (my NSA clearance expired... ;-) ), as well as a few other sites:

https://www.changedetection.com/log/net ... _log2.html

Gary's site also offers an RSS feed, which I use as a secondary notice. Both have worked quite well since I set them up a few months ago.

Could you point us (URL) towards this project?

Hi!

I'm experimenting with EPG123 in a Win7-32bit virtual machine
before installing on my real WMC PC.

I just upgraded from v1.1.10 to 1.1.11 and now have questions:

1) Is the EPG123 installer supposed to be run as administrator?

It had a problem deleting the old epg123_client.exe that I can't
reproduce, so I assume I did something wrong installing v1.1.10.

(I copied everything from epg123_v1.1.11_w7.zip into C:\EPG123
and manually over-wrote the exe's which seems to have worked).

2) Can I delete existing logos in the guide?

When I installed v1.1.10, I had it download logos from SD
but now I'd like to remove most of the logos from the guide

I deleted all the png files from the C:\EPG123\logos folder
except for 1 channel, then did a save/execute in epg123.exe,
yet still see logos for every channel in the guide.

How do I remove all the logos from the guide?

Thanks in advance!

The installer will request elevated privileges to ensure it has access to the registry and file system. So either run as administrator or allow it to run elevated.

Removing the png files will not remove the logos already existing in the WMC database. To do so, run "epg123Client.exe -nologo" which will remove ALL logos. Next update will only include the logos residing in the .\logo folder.

Came in with 1.10 and just installed 1.11 since I have a Ceton 6 tuner. Does it fix the 4 tuner limit somehow automatically or do I have to redo something with WMC... and if so do I lose all those painfully created wish list programs (as well as the current programs).

Also, I assume all those old pre-existing programs to be recorded that just hang around from year to year (and still worked) are now long lost or can I somehow retrieve them with your new tool (just asking, not expecting

OOPS. Staring at the install after the fact I saw the help button. I"ve read the manual. So I see what I guess I have to do, but, the question about losing stuff mentioned above stands (??)

Thanks for all your work
