Can't "Create" task to auto-update listings

#1

Post by mrfreeze49 » Sun Jul 16, 2017 6:43 pm

Hi. I have Windows 7 Pro and use Comcast on the west coast. After all the recent Rovi/MS guide issues I installed EPG123 1.1.9 and subscribed to the 7 day SchedulesDirect trial. Not knowing whether I would keep it I initially used a very simple password to set it up. I also successfully used the "Create" button to schedule a task to wake and update the listings at 3:00am each day. Everything worked well, including the updates, and I was happy with the software. After 6 days and still no Rovi fix, I paid the $25 for a 1 year subscription. This is where my problem began. I needed to change my password to something a little stronger and did so easily with my SD account but found I couldn't in the EPG123 software. Each time I typed in a new password and clicked "Save" or "Save & Execute" it would revert back to the old password and generate a login connection error when starting the software or trying to update the listings. I tried uninstalling and updating to 1.1.10 but that didn't work either. I uninstalled it one more time but this time deleted the EPG123 folder on my C: drive before reinstalling 1.1.10. This worked and I was finally able to successfully update the software using a stronger password. As I mentioned above, during the trial period, I was able to create and delete a scheduled task for EPG to wake and update my listings at 3:00am each day. But after all the machinations resetting my password this feature no longer works. Every time I enter a time, check the appropriate boxes and click "Create" it just zeros out the time and clears the check boxes and no task is generated. I've checked Windows Task Scheduler and there is nothing for EPG. I've tried going back to 1.1.9 since it was the version I was using when it last worked but that does the same thing. Any help is appreciated.

For starters, sorry about that. I thought I had fixed it, but missed 1 line of code. It will be fixed in the next revision to actually store a password change. Deleting the epg123 folder worked because your password hash is stored in the epg123.cfg file.

I've never heard of this behavior for the scheduled task. Out of curiosity, where did you install epg123? If it is the Program Files folder that is probably the issue. When creating a task, epg123 will create an xml file in the epg123 folder and then import it into Task Scheduler. Windows doesn't like allowing you to write in the Program Files folder and prefers that stuff handled in ProgramData which I am not setup to do.

The program installed into the default C:\EPG123 folder. I tried again moments ago and it still won't schedule the task.

Could you post the recent contents of your trace.log file? This sounds like an access issue but since it worked for you before, I'm a little confused.

I fixed the problem with a system restore. I had to uninstall EPG123, delete the EPG123 folder, reinstall 1.1.10 and reconfigure my lineup again but it's working. I will post again if the problem returns but it's working now. Thank you for the help.
