Attempting update, hard crashes

#1

Post by RiC0MD » Sat Jul 08, 2017 3:50 am

Running into an issue, so I too was no longer getting guide updates, so decided to give EPG123 a try.

Rebooted in safe mode, did step 1 clean
Rebooted back to normal, proceeded with the rest of the steps in the PDF, when I click save and execute, I can see a progress bar come up for a brief second and then it closes, WMC shows no data.
Trace log shows as follows:

I'll have to research this ... I have a try/catch that should avoid this.

I suggest downloading v1.1.8 (http://epg123.garyan2.net/downloads/epg ... v1.1.8.zip) to get past this. Do you happen to have MCL XL open while performing the EPG123 setup?

1.1.8 seemed to get pass the issue, nothing was open / multiple reboots as well, WMC is showing full guide data now!

Should I stick to 1.1.8 for now or?

Thanks!

Yes, stick with 1.1.8 for now. Could you check a couple things for me?

Question, are you using the latest MCLXL 3.1.0.0?
Can you browse to C:\ProgramData\MyChannelLogos\ and verify settings.xml exists.
If you double-click it, does the file comes up and you can see the contents?

Do you mind if I send you a modified exe file to try out in the future?

Hi Garyan2,

I can tell you MCLXL was for sure an older version, I had actually uninstalled it to eliminate it from a possible issue, I did open the XML and it was completely blank, which I guess is explaining the decoding error. Otherwise feel free to fire exe's my way, happy to help/test.

Wow, that was unexpected. I'll test out a few things later to see if I can recreate it. If I can, it will be a quick fix from here.

Thanks!

Well, I was able to recreate to some extent. You were right in that the xml file being empty was the reason ... I just don't know how it became empty in the first place. I went through an install/uninstall and the file was still there and intact. But this also means you can just delete the file and go back to using v1.1.10 and everything will be okay.

The file still being there also means I am going to have to do more checks against MCLXL to make sure it is really installed, and not just leftover files that weren't removed during the uninstall. v1.1.11 will address this scenario.

Again, thank you ... reporting on any errors results in a more robust epg123.

Okay, sometimes I am blind to my own code. The only catch I had setup for this function was an IO exception, nothing to catch an xml parsing exception. Easy fix.
