EPG123 is not populating the guide

#1

Post by KarterJK » Mon Jul 03, 2017 12:08 pm

I must be doing something wrong because because it just isn't populating the guide.

I am running
Windows 8.1 WMC
version 1.1.9 EPG123

I select 'I do not agree' under Program Terms of advice
run 123EPG
it processes and creates the proper files
but it isn't being sent to Media Player
what am I missing here?

In the EPG123 GUI, did you check the boxes labeled "Automatically import guide data in WMC" and "Automatically match channels to stations"? There is a picture on page 10 of the manual.

yes, they are both checked.

I have completely removed WMC
deleted all ehome files
and tried again
yet nothing...

if I click client or the other it brings up the identical interface. I get no manual or Full options

Could you post the contents of your trace.log file for some recent attempts? It will probably tell us right away what is missing or what is wrong.

Your epg123Client is definitely bombing out.

Which Windows version are you running, and where do you have epg123 installed? Have you tried opening the EPG123 Client GUI as administrator?

I think you are running the wrong client. Did you download the epg123Setup or the portable zip files? If the error you are getting that flashes on the screen has _w7 in it, that is for a Win7 machine. It won't work on a Win8+ machine.

Try and run the epg123Client.exe from the epg123_v1.1.9_w8.zip file. If it opens, then that is the problem and solution. Just copy over your c:\epg123\epg123Client.exe file with the one from the zip file.

The setup is supposed to detect which version of windows you are running and install the appropriate client. If this didn't work, it will be a first that I know of. Was your Win8 an upgrade from Win7?

Actually, a quick way to be sure you have the right epg123Client is to right-click it and look at the properties. The details tab will show the File description is epg123Client_w8. If it says _w7, it's the wrong one.

Okay, got it
apparently it doesn't function under windows 8.0 but does under 8.1
I had another unit that the guide wouldn't show up but was running 8.1 and it worked perfectly
even got the client up and running no problems.

Thank you so much, now I just have to figure out how to make it automatically update
You will definitely be seeing some donations coming your way from me. Thanks again

To clarify, the setup program doesn't work to install the proper client? or the "proper" client doesn't function under windows 8.0? I'm trying to figure out which part is not working to correct it on next release.

My problem is I don't have a Win8 machine to test it out so I have to rely on reports like this for any problems.

using the 1.1.9.zip
installed both and worked on 8.1

it installed on 8.0 but only the server functioned, the client didn't do anything
but the server didn't connect it to WMC

I tried the w8 version but nothing seemed to work under 8.0 if I remember correctly

I have already started upgrading the machine to 8.1, but if you would like i can roll it back and allow you to use it as a test machine
there are so few 8.0 machines I wonder if it is worthing bothering with

Thanks for the offer, but I don't want to hold you up. I'll do a deep dive into my setup code to see what I missed.

Just an update ... it appears the client will not work with the Windows 8.0 version of WMC. It works fine for Windows 8.1, but the mcepg.dll which is referenced in my code is different enough that it will not work.

 After 16 months, nobody ever told me it didn't work in Win8.

I guess I'll have to build 3 separate client versions to cover the possible OS versions with WMC, though in my research today I get a feeling that Windows 8.1.1 is also different so it may be 4.
