NO THANK YOU! I'm sorry but I fully disagree of the condescending attitude of those who are upset with a mention of another product that will fix problems being posted to this board! I counted in this whole thread and there are only SIX posts of 78 that mention epg123 (before the complaints). That means only 7.6% are posts suggesting epg123 while 92.4% are concerning ROVI.anotheruser wrote:Thank you sir.Scallica wrote:I agree and further EPG123 posts will be deleted.anotheruser wrote:I find the recurring off topic EPG123 spam about as annoying as the EPG outages.
Imagine you had a friend who had a beautiful HD TV system, the most up-to-date equipment, but was constantly complaining about their poor picture quality. Then you find out a company had come in and hooked everything up with RCA cables - I'm sure you'd suggest they go out and purchase some HDMI cables to fix their problems.
In this scenario the TV setup is WMC
RCA cables are ROVI
HDMI is epg123
Wouldn't you want to be a friend and help someone fix their system?
That's why suggesting epg123 is not spam (7.6% isn't even close to spam). I appreciated all the epg123 suggestions on other threads because that's what helped me finally decide to make the change. Remember - there are members who may not know about epg123 and having a few comments isn't some horrible problem in a thread. Just because you know everything about WMC and don't want to hear about epg123 doesn't mean you should squash all discussion.

Nice post about EPG123 but I think you are also missing the point of this thread. I personally don't mind alternate product suggestions. This thread is to enlighten the makers of their products (Rovi/Microsoft) and those users that in some cases might have paid for the services in the Windows 8/8.1 upgrade cycle that their products are deficient let alone the user base prior to win8. Additionally, after one or two mentions of an alternative should suffice the readers of this thread. As a community reader I expect MS/ROVI to pay attention to the poor quality of the products until it is retired and not supported.
Kindly,
jimi

I think the majority of the WMC community is well aware of EPG123 by now, as a viable alternative to Rovi. We have an entire sub-forum dedicated for EPG123 discussion. The purpose of "Guide Data Outage" threads is to document issues with Rovi, not to discuss or continuously suggest alternatives. *Smacks gavel*

For those who record Modern Family, Tonight's episode is the season finale but it seems to be marked as a repeat so it wont record if you're only recording new episodes. I had to set up a one time recording.

Seems to be marked as a new episode in raw Rovi data for my OTA lineup.dmagerl wrote:For those who record Modern Family, Tonight's episode is the season finale but it seems to be marked as a repeat so it wont record if you're only recording new episodes. I had to set up a one time recording.

All I know is today's episode is not recording. Next weeks episode is set for recording even though it is very plainly a rerun because today's episode is the Finale. It appears that many of ABC's primetime programs in next week's guide are generic descriptions.

Says original air date is 5/11. (It also says, "Repeat/Finale" after the show title in Synopsis.)anotheruser wrote:Seems to be marked as a new episode in raw Rovi data for my OTA lineup.dmagerl wrote:For those who record Modern Family, Tonight's episode is the season finale but it seems to be marked as a repeat so it wont record if you're only recording new episodes. I saw something similar to this a few weeks ago; one of my shows recorded OK as a new show, but when I sorted the list by original air date it showed up in the wrong spot. It recorded correctly on the correct day as a new show, but it was marked as having an original air date two days earlier.

An episode of a show is considered "NEW" in WMC if the "Original Air Date" (OAD) of that episode is within 7 days of the airing date of that instance of the episode.
The "NEW" tag that is seen attached to an airing of an episode on sites such as tvguide.com (which use Rovi data) is not used by WMC. In fact, that flag does not exist in the feed that is downloaded from Microsoft, nor is there any mechanism of loading/using that flag in WMC (so EPG123 cannot use it either, although it can modify the OAD (based on that flag being present in the source feed) to fool WMC in to marking the episode as new).

How are you getting updates? Mine stopped updating a week or two ago, with today at 8pm being the end date. Is there anyway I can diagnose this further or fix this?anotheruser wrote:Today's update contains 4 days of new data bringing us up to date with data ending 8 pm EDT on 5/30.

I have a Media Center tuner configuration of:
1x CableCard tuner via HDHomeRun Prime (the other two CC tuners configured with Plex DVR)
2x Hauppauge HD PVR USB units via DVBLink for Hauppauge HD PVR
2x ATSC tuners via HDHomeRun Dual
2x ATSC tuners via HDHomeRun Dual
I just noticed the guide issue today. Even when the guide outage is fixed what tends to happen is that the local channels still won't update in the guide (i.e. CBS, NBS, ABC, PBS and so on). It doesn't matter if the local channel comes i via cablecard, cable box (over HD PVR) or OTA / ATSC these channels guide data won't update. Other channels like AMC, SyFy, FX, HBO, Cinemax, Showtime and so on all update fine after the guide issue is fixed.
So right now my local channel's guide data ends today 5-18-2017 at 8:00pm but all other cable channel's guide data ends at 5-30-2017 at 8:00pm. So that is a 12 day difference.
Is the outage still ongoing or have things started to settle?
Typically I have to go through a number of steps to correct this but it only works after the outage is over.

Ah ok good, so it's not just me.
Looking at Event Viewer it says that NetworkMetadata package is not available, ClientUpdate package is already up to date and then 2 retrieving nettv's.
I think I'm going to bite the bullet and give epg123 a try or nextpvr.

I went through an objectrestorrecovery on my main Media Center system. As such I had to go through Media Center tuner setup again. This corrected the issue of the local channels having no guide data past 5-18-2017. So all channels now have guide data that ends 5-30-2017 which is something but there was no progress beyond 5-30-2017 8:00pm.

Today's update contains 2 days of new data bringing us current with actual data until 8 pm EDT 6/1.
Given that less than half of the daily updates over the last month have had new data, I doubt we'll stay current for long.
