Recording freezes during playback then turns to black screen

#1

Post by BruinBro » Wed Apr 12, 2017 8:06 am

I recorded a ball game tonight and while I was playing it back, the video froze at about the 3:40:50 mark and the sound disappeared as well. The timer continued to move, and about 10 minutes later the screen turned black for the remainder of the recording. Any idea what causes this and is there something I can do to prevent it from happening in the future? Anything I can do to see the vid past the freezing point?

Thanks

Can you check if the recording is copy protected? Try opening the file in VLC Media Player. If the picture is scrambled, then the recording is protected. I think this happens because something went wrong in the DRM process while it was recording. I haven't seen this issue on copy-freely programs, only copy-once programs. The only solution that seems to help is to create a scheduled task to restart the WMC Receiver service in the middle of the night.

Yeah, it's copy protected..it was recorded on Fox Sports West and VLC can't play it. How would I create that scheduled task?

Actually, all you need to do is stop the service at like 4am. Then the service will automatically start when there is a recording scheduled.

Create a new file called stopWMCservices.bat in C:\wherever and enter the following lines:

net stop ehRecvr
net stop ehSched

Then, create a Scheduled Task to execute the file.

Almost, remove the .txt from the file name.

What were the results of this? It is always nice to report back success or failure so others can follow along. Thanks.

Oops..Sorry, I forgot to post results. It seemed to help for a while but now I'm having the problem again. Is there something else I can do?

I have the same problem. On my tv, the screen looks grey with white pixels dancing around. It happens on 1 recording a month or so. Also, the time is not the same, it varies.
