If you have a .png in the [epg123]\logos folder that matches a station callsign, then that station's mychannellogo will be replaced with the epg123 logo; otherwise it won't have any affect.jmsnyc wrote:If you use mychannellogos, you uncheck use logos in EPG123, right? Just making sure

What steps are required to move EPG123 from one drive to another? I recently switched my system drive to an SSD, and would like to move EPG123 from a slower HDD to the SSD. I copied the entire folder over, ran the GUI and did a Save & Execute, which worked fine. This morning I checked both trace logs, and it was the original (on HDD) file that was written to. I renamed the original folder (don't want to delete it just yet), but haven't tested anything. I guess I could delete the scheduled task and create a new one to run later today. SD was down for maintenance earlier anyway.
Now I'm wondering if the scheduled task is what controls this, given there's no installation.
Thanks in advance.

The scheduled task will still have the path to the old executable if it was created when running from the HDD. You can move all the files the way you did since EPG123 expects everything to be in it's start up directory or in folders just under that. However the task is running epg123.exe from the old path on HDD since that copy is still there. Edit the scheduled task and change the path to the epg123.exe executable in the Actions tab or else just use the GUI, run from the new location, and delete then re-create the task. That should do it. You can test by starting the task itself manually in Task Scheduler to see that it runs from the SSD path.

This evening, I noticed that no new data was added to the guide during its usual 0300 runtime. I reviewed trace.log, and found an error. So, I decided to rerun it via the UI, in case it was something transient, but the error recurred. All steps, up to the section which I copied and pasted below, ended with SUCCESS. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Well that's new. Usually, errors with loadmxf when importing into the database go away on a second try. There could be some corruption of your database, or there could actually be something wrong with the mxf file. Could you open the epg123.mxf file in notepad and copy/paste all the keywords and keyword groups (copy from <Keywords> down to </KeywordGroups>)? Maybe there is something there.MarkHNC wrote:This evening, I noticed that no new data was added to the guide during its usual 0300 runtime. I reviewed trace.log, and found an error. Everything looks fine ... nothing wrong that I can see with the keywords or keyword groups. I do, however, notice you are using a version prior to 1.0.0, so that might be an option to try and clear this up if it is the mxf file.

Maybe I overlooked it somewhere, but is EPG123 open source? I have some ideas about attempting to force the guide updates when specific episodes are updated for a service and the "isGeneric" flag won't do.

OK, well, this has been another strange adventure, and the problem seems to be corrected. However, I'll share the experience in case it is of use to you.garyan2 wrote:Everything looks fine ... nothing wrong that I can see with the keywords or keyword groups. Downloaded and copied 1.0.2 files into place. As I started epg123.exe, I got the following from Norton Security:
Don't know if this is similar to what was happening with Defender, except that this is about web traffic. Either way, allowing traffic made this particular problem go away.
Then I reran epg123.exe and got the same error. On advice you'd given me in the past in this forum, tried the following command:
Code: Select all
start /wait c:\windows\ehome\mcupdate.exe -dbgc
Then, just to see what all this was doing to my schedule, I started WMC, and got a message saying that problems with my guide were being corrected, and guide data would be downloaded again. So I tried running epg123.exe again, and this time, not only did it complete without error, but it ran much faster than the last few tries.
I cannot say that any of this represents a straight line, repeatable process (since, I confess, I was juggling other matters on other screens at the time), but it's nice to see it back to being the well-behaved process I've been experiencing since installing EPG123.
Thanks again for all your work!

Not yet. I keep thinking it will be soon, but folks keep coming up with some good ideas and I keep running with it. I also have a bit of code cleanup to do and figure out how to use github before I release the code to the wild.jbf154 wrote:Maybe I overlooked it somewhere, but is EPG123 open source? Glad to hear it's working again ... and that Norton has a favorable opinion of epg123!MarkHNC wrote:OK, well, this has been another strange adventure, and the problem seems to be corrected. However, I'll share the experience in case it is of use to you.
...
Your problem sounds to have been a wayward mcupdate process that was blocking the database cleanup and/or import. Is your HTPC always on? or never rebooted? ... could have been going on for awhile.
When you got the message of the problems being corrected, WMC probably built a new database and epg123 populated it. Definitely should be more responsive since everything is fresh.

That "living room PC" is left to sleep, and wakes for things like recording or scheduled maintenance (e.g. defrag), or, of course, when I want to view something it's recorded. However, during the weekend, after the latest/October batch of Windows security updates passed muster with my favorite researcher, I allowed all of the appropriate updates to install and gave the machine a full PM. So, fortunately, the only occurrence was during the overnight hours Sunday into Monday, and then, of course, again last night/this morning. Since the schedule was reset when I installed EPG123, I tend to micromanage what it adds to the schedule (since a lot of the stuff it thinks I've not seen was recorded/viewed/deleted before EPG123 came into the picture). That's how I caught this so quickly.garyan2 wrote:Is your HTPC always on? or never rebooted? ... could have been going on for awhile.

yup, same issue, looks like the download failure of the netv package keeps MCupdate running in the background holding the database open.
anyway to have epg123 check if mcupdate it running, and kill it before its starts its work?

Thinking maybe this was another fluke, I reran the above command again, and once again got the same error. I further researched the error online, and something one person said in a forum made me think to check for running ("stuck"?) processes, and I found mcupdate.exe still running in the background. So I decided to throw caution to the wind, and use the End Task button on mcupdate.exe and any running eh* processes.Code: Select all
start /wait c:\windows\ehome\mcupdate.exe -dbgc

I've found that mcupdate behaves like a virus. Sometimes steals all CPU cycles, and hard to kill (it just starts again). The Mac wrote:yup, same issue, looks like the download failure of the netv package keeps MCupdate running in the background holding the database open.

Remind me why we should keep this code abortion around? I mean, 7mc is great, but it's dead, so I wonder what mcupdate contributes these days.

I was referring to allowing mcupdate to run. I love Microsoft's media center as it's the only pc based tv recorder that supports cablecard. My understanding is that mcupdate is mostly for guide updates. EPG123 is doing that.Sammy2 wrote:What?jonwz wrote:I've found that mcupdate behaves like a virus. I've found Norton to be the most reliable for stopping a variety of attacks/infections. Several family members were using MSE, and kept getting infections. Once I moved them over to Norton, I've not had to work to remove viruses/malware using other tools. McAfee is deployed by the powers that be at my day job, and it often commandeers a CPU for extended periods, and has also allowed the odd bandit through the defenses. So I've found Norton the most useful/reliable.Sammy2 wrote:Uninstall Norton. Use MSE.

Norton had a bad reputation for a long time, but I understand is much, much better now. McAfee is the new Norton.
