Comcast MPEG4 Change for San Francisco area

#1

Post by gary94080 » Thu Feb 25, 2016 1:47 am

the letter I got from Comcast said that the switch would be happening on or about February 23, 2016.

so far I haven't seen any problems on the two WMC systems that I have. does anyone know if it has happened yet?

I'm using:
WMC on Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1
HD HomeRun Prime (HDHR3-CC)
Xbox 360 white
Xbox 360 Slim
Xbox 360 E

You can check a specific channel by pressing info+411 while playing whatever channel. Apparently, for any Copy-Once h.264 channels, your Xboxes won't work. Only an actual PC. Copy-Freely h.264 channels will work on them though. See this thread for more info: http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/vie ... f=6&t=9635

it has been a few months so I thought I would bump this thread.

thanks, Ed. I was really confused for a while, but once I finally discovered that 411+info (as far as MPEG4 information) only works on the pc and not on the extenders I was able to see which channels were affected.

I only have basic digital at my house and just OWN has been converted.

my sister has one of those bundles that include HBO and a few others like Star etc. so far there it is also just OWN.

so my question is, have other premium channels that I can't check been converted or has Comcast, at least the San Francisco area put the conversion process on hold?

I just checked the basic digital lineup and in addition to OWN I found that the following are now H-264

FXX
WGN
HLN
History
Velocity
Animal Planet
HGTV
Esquire
A&E

it's been a month or more since the last time I checked.
