WuselEPG is using "TV-Movie Clickfinder" Lineups as a data source (data is stored in an Access database and is converted); it contains also a limited supply of Pictures, but no covers; lately the supply of covers through external sources broke down, therefore I have only generic/blank covers; so, it's pretty much useless; that's why I was looking for something else;
I'm trying to get my hands on the WuselEPG program to see how it works, but from what I have seen, this may be your problem with having no guide images.
cmal wrote:I think it is a matter of the EPG (items are marked as "movie" ; cover is present) whether the Movie Guide is created; therefore again the question :
which specific piece of Software (module) is responsible for the cover art download?
The movie guide is only available for certain countries/regions ... but there is a way to cheat it. Change registry entry below:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\MCE.GlobalSettings]
"systemGeoISO2"="US"
cmal wrote:to the lineups: so, you have the two lineups added, selected some channels from the first and then added a few more from the second, which are not present in the first, "save&execute"... all of them are shown in the Client? even if you later add some more channels in one of the lineups, which is not present in the other?

I mean, you have seen the screen shots, I'm not imagining this... what can be the problem on my side?
That is correct... everything is working here. I suspect the "updated" MXF file created by EPG123 did not get imported into the guide database. That would explain why the configuration shows one thing while the client the another. To be sure the MXF file is imported, you can use the [Manual Import] button in the client to force it and then see if the missing stations are available.

Thanks for the support and thanks for the tip; WuselEPG has done this very probably, I didn't check yet;
in any case, I restarted from scretch : deleted manually the database and the Folder in ehome Folder, deleted the cfg, the XMFs and the Cache folder in the epg123 installation Folder and reconfigured everything;

now the lineup seems to be complete; and meanwhile the movie guide did pop up (after some waiting) but with very few covers... I have checked : the epg123.xmf does contain links to a lot of Pictures, which are not presented in the epg; I have basically no art for series and up to now only very few movie covers;
so, again which tool is responsible for the download, so I can check whether it should work;

question(s) and proposal to the Client (see jpg):
I was a Little bit confused by the menue "automatch by callsign", because the meaning is for me inconsitent between the two Windows; I assume the call sign on the left is matched with the "Service Name" on the right and then the callsign on the right is replacing the callsign on the left, correct? (I didn't check because I made a manual subscription);
It would be very nice, if on the right in a separate collumn the source of the individuel channel lineup would be listed (e.g. Lineup 1 or L1, L2), so one can choose which source shall be used;

if the callsign on the right is for several lines the same (like SAT1GLD in the jpg), is the data normally the same, or can it still be different?

Can I rename on the left side the channel/callsign without loosing the subscription?

a few channels did not get a channel logo. Is it possible to assign one manually?

Thanks again for the efford and help.

I haven't given an answer because I honestly don't know what is making the calls. I would assume the requests are from ehshell.exe, but it could very easily be executed by Internet Explorer (the images are cached in the temporary internet folder). Which would bring up what version of Windows are you using? If the 'N' version, then I seriously don't know.

You have the ability to add a custom call sign to the channels on the left side. Clicking the match by call sign does exactly that ... matches the call sign on the left with the call sign on the right.
cmal wrote:It would be very nice, if on the right in a separate collumn the source of the individuel channel lineup would be listed (e.g. Lineup 1 or L1, L2), so one can choose which source shall be used;
The solution is already in the works and will be in the next release. On the left side, you will be able to filter on the scanned sources (DVB-S, DVB-T, ...) while on the right you will be able to select individual lineups from Schedules Direct. You will also have the ability to create custom channel numbers.

cmal wrote:if the callsign on the right is for several lines the same (like SAT1GLD in the jpg), is the data normally the same, or can it still be different?
Typically yes. Though I have never seen two different stations have the same call sign, I don't think that is a requirement.
cmal wrote:Can I rename on the left side the channel/callsign without loosing the subscription?
Yes. There are underlying UIDs that are not altered by renaming channels or callsigns so the links will stay.
cmal wrote:a few channels did not get a channel logo. Is it possible to assign one manually?
If you place a PNG file in the \logos folder with your channel logo, it will be included in the next update. The filename must match the station callsign... example: SAT1.png.

great development!
meanwhile I managed to get all the cover art and series into my EPG; it seems that ehshell is key; but maybe also the Edge Explorer is important: i have disable the checkbox to "delete the image-cache" after exiting the program...

also the logos do work, except for two : DW and Insight; the common property seems to be that there is no epg/lineup available for them...

still: great tool, I like it and will stay with it !

I'm glad we could get everything working properly before your trial expired, and happy you are satisfied with the results.

I also want to thank you. The better I understand the customer experience with installing and using EPG123, the more effective and focused my updates will be. I would consider our collaborative efforts as being fruitful and enlightening.

Suddenly my EPG123 app stopped updating. When I went to run it manually, it said the following: "[ERROR] Unexpected character encountered while parsing value: . Path '', line 0, position 0." Any ideas?

I'm going to need a little bit more information. It looks to me it is having a problem with a response from Schedules Direct, but I need to know where it is failing. Could you post the entire update log from your update today from start to finish? With that information, I will be able to set up a virtual machine here and find where the problem is.

Just had to do a Win7 reformat. EPG123 was working great before (albeit a pre-1.1.18 release, not sure which), but I can't get epg123 to import data into WMC now. I followed the guide using the client set-up. The save and execute completes w/o any errors, but I get 10,000 blank channels in WMC.

trace.log doesn't have any errors that jump out at me. I can attach if that helps.

The first timed update task has also completed, but it also did not populate WMC's guide. Any thoughts?

What you have is 10000 unmatched channels. Open the client and with the EPG123 lineup on the right, click the match by [# Number] button.

EDIT: Take a look at the install video on the website (http://epg123.garyan2.net/?page_id=503) around the 5:15 mark.

Definitely a strange place and error to be occurring. The app is simply taking a look at itself to determine the assembly version, and to query SD for the current version for comparison. Can you successfully log in?

What version are you running? How was it installed?

This is the first (and second) request from EPG123 to SD and it is giving an error. It looks like it is getting a response but there is a problem parsing it. Do you happen to have the file "Newtonsoft.Json.dll" in the epg123 folder? This is possible if you just use the portable versions and not the setup file.

I do not have that file in the folder. I am using the latest EPG123. I used the setup installer, not the standalone.

@roberto188: you're going to have to help me out here.

What operating system are you using?
What happened at the beginning of the year that could have changed your system?
Have you installed a new .NET Framework? disabled or uninstalled a .NET Framework?
What have you done to try and troubleshoot? Have you turned off AV software, or firewall? Have you tried running EPG123 on another system to communicate with SD? <= Just need to open the configuration GUI to confirm whether you can actually log in.

Sorry. I'm on Windows 7 64 bit. It was working fine, then I cloned my HD from a spinning disk to SSD. Not sure how that would affect things, but ever since then I've had this issue. I thought it might have been the .net framework, so I uninstalled the one that was current and installed the latest version. Also I get a .net framework error if I don't run it in admistrator mode. Something about not have .net framework rights. I don't have any AV software running. I can use EPG123 on other computers with the same user name and password without issue. I guess I'm looking for some clean install/troubleshooting steps to go through before I format the harddrive and reinstall windows (which seems like a ridiculously extreme step to fix a TV guide). Sorry I didn't provide much more information earlier.

Interesting. The only thing I can think of is if the cloning missed some security descriptors for folders. EPG123 uses an embedded .NET 4.0 version Newtonsoft.Json.dll and I'm wondering if the reason it can't perform its job is due to not having the rights for the drive or in memory to "parse" the downloaded file from Schedules Direct. It is definitely weird to have to run as Administrator even after installing the latest .NET Framework.

I know you said you cloned your drive, but did you install/reinstall EPG123 in a special folder? the Program Files folder perhaps?

I woke up this morning and found I had the following error:
Beginning EPG123 update execution. 2018-02-22 08:22:01Z
3:22:03 AM - Subscribed lineup USA-NY31532-X has been DELETED at the headend.
3:22:03 AM - There are 0 stations queued for download from 1 subscribed lineups. Exiting.
3:22:03 AM - Check that lineups are 'INCLUDED' and stations are selected in the EPG123 GUI.
3:22:03 AM - Failed to create MXF file. Exiting.

Now when I run the application my lineup has disappeared and on top it says [Deleted] DELETED LINEUP(). What do I need to do?

Thanks,

Steve

You need to open a ticket with Schedules Direct for your lineup. This has happened before and I know a couple French lineups started showing this earlier this week/last week so could eventually be a problem for everyone. Here is the response from their server(s).

Code: Select all

{
    "code": 0,
    "serverID": "20141201.web.3",
    "datetime": "2018-02-22T14:19:39Z",
    "lineups": [{
        "lineup": "USA-NY31532-X",
        "isDeleted": true,
        "name": "DELETED LINEUP",
        "transport": "Deleted"
    }]
}

You won't have to do anything with epg123 as long as you did not Save or Save&Execute with 0 stations. It would have given you a warning if you tried.
