epg123 & Remote Potato

First and foremost. Thank you for creating this solution to the guide problems and continuing support for WMC.

Problem: I still use Remote Potato to access WMC remotely. Primarily to set up recordings I forget to do at home. Having said this, logging into Remote Potato via IE, I get all of the Guide Data, Logo's and Program Data. Great! Not so great, when I set something up to record, I get a positive dialog box saying recording is set, but nothing actually records.

Second part of the problem which I believe is linked, is that opening up Remote Potato via iOS, none of the guide data populates.

I'm not sure which end has the problem or where it can be fixed. I don't see any support portals for Remote Potato anymore, so I thought I would start here.

Anyone or even Garyan2 would be able to comment or even be able to find a fix?

I used to use Remote Potato but switched to Ceton's My Media Center before I switched to EPG123.

Remote Potato is dead, the developer even locked the user forum. The iOS app has been removed from the store and doesn’t run on iOS 11 (32-bit). I wouldn’t waste time trying to troubleshoot it.

MMC on the other hand works great with EPG123 and on iOS 11. However, it is also no longer being developed or actively supported.

Thanks for your reply. I figured as much about Remote Potato. Now I also have MMC (Haven't used it in ages) and use Ceton products. I will try it out and report back. But I always thought MMC was only useful while in your home network, not remote. That's why I haven't used it in a while, am I wrong on that?

MMC works fine remotely, I use it myself. You just need to direct the port on your router to the media center. Sorry, never had any experience with Remote Potato.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for chiming in. You are right, I just finished reinstalling MMC Server on my WMC system, opened the port and shazam!! I am in remotely.

Thank you for creating epg123, hope you saw that I made a donation. And I hope you continue to support WMC!!

I know of no reason that Remote Potato should not work with EPG123 data. The one thing I can think of is that the client app/browser still has old data cached from when you were using Microsoft/TiVo data. If the app has a way to flush the cache, you can try that.

There are also some setting on the Remote Potato server that you can run to update the channel listings, etc. If you haven't done this since the EPG123 conversion it may cause issues.

I know that the Silverlight client has an option to cache the EPG (which you can turn off), but I don't know how that option affects scheduling of recordings.

I am not sure how long it has been since you moved to EPG123, but if you can't find a way to clear cached data, you can wait until after all old cached data would have expired (about 12-13 days) and see if you have the same problem then.
