Don't understand channel management

There are three channel listings. Can someone please describe what they all mean? Why is it so complicated? Why can't I simply manage a single list of channels, and check the box if I want the channel to appear in the guide? Also, there is an issue with channel 501 described below.

By the way a better UI (IMO) would be two panels, with one being a list of channels that should appear in the guide and another being the channels that will not appear in the guide. You could drag and drop channels between the two lists. There would be no notion of "(Un)Subscribe".

    Lineup tabs in EPG123 server
I assume whether a channel is checked in this list indicates whether to get the channel
listings from Schedules Direct. I have 501 checked.
Lineup Services in EPG123 client (right pane)
I would think this corresponds to the selected channels in the server.
But it doesn't. I see many channels in this list that are unchecked in the server list. You can "Subscribe" to
channels from this list. I don't see 501 in the list.
Guide Channels in EPG123 client (left pane)
Are these the channels that actually appear in the guide? I checked 501 (but "Service Name" and "Subscribed Lineup"
are blank) and 501 does show in the guide, but with "No data available". You can Unsubscribe to channels in this list.
"Subscribe" is an always-grayed-out option. Why is it an option then?

Thanks

This arrangement of (un)subscribe is necessary to accommodate all users, especially international users. Some of the lineups provided by Gracenote are incomplete or incorrect. The flexibility of EPG123 here allows any user to manually apply any station listing to any tuner channel; basically tailor any lineup to their configuration. This also helps everyone with the following scenario:

Consider when your provider moves some stations in your lineup. It can take sometimes a week before that change is reflected in the lineup provided by SD/Gracenote. Rather than wait for the lineup to be corrected, a user can manually subscribe the station to the new channel and the guide is immediately corrected.

Correct, these are the stations to be downloaded from Schedules Direct.

Correct, whatever you selected for download will be reflected in the "EPG123 Lineups with Schedules Direct" lineup once it is imported.

In order to subscribe to a downloaded station, you must select a channel on the right side and at least 1 channel on the left side. The subscribe option will then be available.

To address channel 501... I suspect it is not selected in the server gui. One of the traps everyone falls into is in understanding that the server doesn't download the channels you selected, it downloads the stations you selected. If you notice, one of the columns is the StationID and that same station can be on multiple channels. I suspect your channel 501 also exists on another channel which you unselected thinking it would only remove the channel number and not all channels numbers for that station.
