EPG123 Guide not importing into WMC

#1

Post by rtg_shadow » Thu Jul 06, 2017 9:58 pm

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and today was the final straw with the build in guide downloader that WMC has.

So I installed the latest EPG123 (1.1.10_w7) and walked through the installation guide. The first issue was when I tried to open the epg123Client I got this error:

Code: Select all

Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. if you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Could not load file or assembly 'System.Core, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
But I just hit the "Continue" button twice and it loaded up the Client application. I then clicked on the "Step 1: Clean Start" button and it would just give me a loading mouse icon, I did this a few times because I wasnt sure if it cleared the data. I then continued with the setup like normal and had no issues until (in EPG123.exe) I hit the "Save and Execute" button. It ran all the way through the "Guide Import Progress" and then poped up with a windows error that said: "epgClient_w7 has stopped working, windows can check online for a solution to the problem"

After that I tried to import the guide manually inside "EPG123Client.exe" and it went all the way through the "Guide Import Progress" and then through the same error I am getting when I open EPG123Client. I dont know if it would help but the "details" are here:

Code: Select all

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
After I hit the continue button it just has channels 2-9999. I dont know what I am doing wrong please help!

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. It looks like the error is coming from trying to sort the lineup or the merged channel listview in the GUI. What version of .NET Framework do you have installed? Might try running epg123Client.exe as administrator (right-click executable and select "as administrator" or something like that).

We can do this manually from the command prompt. Command is:

C:\epg123\epg123Client.exe -i C:\epg123\epg123.mxf -match -p

Change the path of the command if you did not install to the default folder.

Yah, and correct me if I'm wrong, but 3.5 is the base framework for Win7. So why can it not find the System.Core?

LOL. Are you throwing my own words back at me? This is why I asked what framework he/she has installed. Also, I've included the .NET 4.0 bootstrap installer in the installation package to prompt the user to install if they don't have it. Of course, the user can refuse to install it and this is where we would end up.

We're getting there.

No, actually I didn't know you were bootstrapping the minimum version but that's when you run the installer. Note he said, it was 1.1.10_w7 which would be one of the portables. That was why I kind of assumed it is the problem, no 4.0. In any case I'm sure you'll get him straightened out.

I have .NET framework 4.6.1 installed but that was just from updating the computer. Is it possible that an older .NET version is stepping on its toes? This isnt the first time a media center program (Ceton InfiniTV Diagnostic Tool) has complained about my .NET version.

I tried running as an administrator but got the same result.

Thanks for the help guys!

Try reinstalling .NET 3.5 from the link below. I'm kinda clueless on this one... my first suspicion is you are running the wrong client for the OS (Win8 versus Win7), but everything I see says it is Win7.

BTW, the file it is looking for is located here.

Thanks Garyan2! I did not expect to get a response back from you tonight! But we were thinking the same thing, I went to "turn windows features on and off" and .NET 3.5 was turned off. So I turned it on and after that EPG123 ran without any errors and then right after my scheduled guide update time, everything in the guide was populated as expected.

You are AWESOME garyan2! Now just the long process of transferring my scheduled recording to match the new guide, but SO worth it to be rid of WMC's guide.

Thanks Again!
