Guide Tool fails to run after EPG123 setup

Hi, I am uk based and using a dual TBS6280 satellite tuner on Windows 7 home premium (32-bit), and like others I have seen no guide data from the MS-sponsored source for several days. I have used DVBGuide during previous “outages” but switched back to default source when it came back into service. As Guide Tool does not see the DVBGuide listings I had to use WMC (very clunky) to switch over individual channels. As this has happened so often I want to switch permanently to a new guide source. The question is - DVBGuide or EPG123? I gave EPG123 a try today to get a feel for how things work - on a spare copy of Windows 7 on a different drive. As the WMC tuner setup for satellite doesn't find the right channels, I want to be sure of the procedure before I trash my WMC database as I'll have to do the tedious manual transponder scans all over.

I did a clean start on WMC as recommended (step 1), then setup WMC without guide listings (step 2) and finally ran EPG123 selecting the Freesat lineup for Astra (step 3). Initially I forgot to select any channels (!), but found the error and ran EPG123 again with a selection of useful channels (BBC, ITV etc). I did not check "Automatch stations..." as I anticipated changing channel numbers and selecting guide listings using Guide Tool. On starting WMC, all channels showed no listings as expected, so I fired up Guide Tool (1.2.4) which reported (as others have seen) "Failed to get WMIS lineups: no active region found" and just exited. I updated to latest Guide Tool (1.4) and this time I got multiple internal execution errors which made no sense to me. I cannot run Lineup Selector, which I have seen suggested in another thread as I am on 32bit, and only saw a 64-bit version. Also, like many of these tools, I have only a sketchy idea what it does, so would be flying blind.

Can anyone help? Has anyone in the uk with similar setup already been through all this?

I'd stay clear of Lineup Selector ... it's purpose early in development was to do what Automatch does. Since that is not a route you want to take, best to leave it alone.

I didn't know Guide Tool got updated (last month), but I do know version 1.2.5 worked for Win7 whereas 1.2.4 did not. I suggest trying 1.2.5... see if that works for you.

Hmmm ... 1geek1tool doesn't give you the option to download past versions. Interestingly enough, the changelog simply says version 1.4 is to "Retreive lineups without a type (imported MXF files)".

It took me a while to discover how to get epg123 to work with version 1.2.5. Now they release a new version which would make that unnecessary, and it doesn't show anything. Looks to me they added the capability of showing imported lineups, but removed the ability to see WMIS type lineups which is what I set the lineup type of epg123.

Actually, 1.4 appears to work fine in Win7 ... I was getting nothing on my Win10 laptop. Don't know what your error is.

I too am having the same problem as OP (Guide Tool crashes on start with "Failed to get WMIS lineups: no active region found") if I run Guide Tool directly on the Win 7 media PC. However, I can run Guide Tool remotely on my Win 10 laptop without the startup error and see/edit the channels but I can't see any regions (empty list) so I can't fix the guide.

I wonder if EPG123 is not setting the region correctly (I currently only have UK freesat selected).

Between both of your posts, it looks like the epg123 guide information is not being imported. With a clean start and a failed import, there are no WMIS lineups in the database. Note: folks in the US will have the legacy, now defunct, internet channels for at least 1 WMIS lineup.

Could you post the contents of the trace.log file from the last epg123 runs?

Can't explain why GuideTool is not working for you guys ... epg123 is running just fine. Are you using GuideTool 1.2.4, 1.2.5, or 1.4?

Also, try to use Guide Editor from glugglug here. See if it sees the WMIS lineup from epg123.

After updating to epg123 v1.0.2, I too noticed that there were no listings on the right hand side of guide tool.

I tried epg123 v1.0.1 but this had the same problem - no lineups listed.

The "EPG123 Lineups with Schedules Direct" WMI lineup is present and properly merged by all appearances. I don't know why GuideTool is not registering any lineups for you guys. The fact that you are not even seeing the "SKY RTW - UK" lineup points to GuideTool itself. I've tried to duplicate your issues here with no success (with GuideTool 1.2.5 and 1.4) and I don't know where to go from here.

Have to admit, have a working machine here with EPG123 1.0.2 and tried both GT 1.2.5 and 1.4, also have no right-hand listing. The Lineups dropdown shows (0) entries. This was a clean-start EPG123 conversion, on a US lineup.
