WMC and Windows 10 and EPG?

#1

Post by jwbutton » Mon May 30, 2016 4:14 am

Just started with epg123 and Schedules Direct.

I am running Windows 10 64 bit and installed WMC version 10.0.10134.0v2.1 and EPG123 v 0.9.7.

If I follow this epg123 installation step: "Perform the setup as normal except for the agreement of the 'Program Guide Terms of Service' screen. Select the I do not agree radio button and click [Next]."
I never see the button/choice under TV for "Guide", just "LiveTV".

If I do say "I agree" I get the "Guide" choice but all stations show "No Data"

I installed WMC version 6.3.9600.16384_x64_v12 but could never get it to run. It appeared to install ok but double clicking on WMC resulted in nothing. No window, no app or process in Task Manger, nothing.
Weird.

So I went back to v2.1 but cannot get epg123 to load the guide data.
This is part of the epg123 trace.log:

[5/29/2016 8:46:51 PM] ====================== Beginning epg123 client execution. =====================
[5/29/2016 8:46:51 PM] [ INFO] Import=True , Match=True , NoLogo=False

[5/29/2016 8:46:51 PM] [STATS] epg123 update execution time was 00:00:01.7907634.

How do I get epg123 to locate the "EPG123 Lineups with Schedules Direct"?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

John

We've had bad luck with v2.1. Might want to visit this thread http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/vie ... 17#p106717 for possible resolution.

Thanks, I looked at that url before but didn't think my install of v12 showed any DISM errors.

I'll try v12 again.

But, just to be clear on what is supposed to happen -
select "I don't agree" in WMC setup and then epg123 will provide the lineup and I should see the "Guide" selection available under "TV" in WMC?

I'll try to break everything down from you original post.

The 'Guide' choice will only show up after you open the epg123 GUI once you have done the TV Setup and declined the TOS (you'll have to close the shell and reopen). When the GUI opens it will set some registry settings to trick WMC into thinking you actually did agree to the TOS.

Saying 'I agree' will run through a normal setup with Rovi ... at that point, the "No Data" guide is all on Microsoft/Rovi in not downloading the guide data. If you do not agree to the TOS and see a guide with no data, that is the problem with epg123 and v2.1 (see below).

In your trace.log file, even though it says you successfully imported .mxf file into Media Center, it didn't. This is the reason for the v2.1 no data problem and not being able to locate the "EPG123 Lineups with Schedules Direct" in the database.

Bottom line, you need to get v12 up and running to work with epg123. The link to the other thread was the first and only method I've heard related to getting v12 installed over a v2.1 when there were issues. Wish I could be more help right now.

Note: I would consider Crash2009 our resident expert on anything WMC and Win10. May want to ping him for any ideas he may have.

I'm having issues as well on windows 10 and epg123 V0.9.8 with WindowsMediaCenter_10.0.10134.0v2.1.

This is a first time set up, I have followed the instructions and have wmc working except for the guide.

I subscribed to Schedules Direct and the lineup is set up, the epg123 instructions look good but I expect it to work at this point.

I do get the guide in the tv menu its just "no data available" .

I notice is that I can't set up the "scheduled Task" on EPG123. It just ignores my input. Any ideas?

When should I see the WMC guide updated?

Should I see immediate results after running epg123.exe and pressing the save&execute button?

Thanks Gary,

I forget to mention the same problem as the poster above:

"I notice is that I can't set up the "scheduled Task" on EPG123. It just ignores my input."

I've tried setting a scheduled task numerous times, never an acknowledgement from epg123 and never shows up in Task Manager.

Wouldn't this be just an EPG123 problem?

I thought I had verified that functionality in Win10, but may be wrong. Have you tried running epg123 as administrator? Also, there should be something in the trace.log file for a SUCCESS/FAIL status.

My issue is resolved by carefully following the install instructions of the WMC_6.3.9600.16384_x64_v12 update.

1) Do the update following the readme instructions.
2) before launching wmc do:
2a) go to Task Scheduler>Task Scheduler Library>Microsoft>Windows>Media Center and find “ObjectStoreRecoveryTask” and right clicking on that and choosing run, then after a second, right click again and click end. This will put your Media Center back to defaults (you will get an error when you open Media Center, but ignore it), and let you perform a first run again.
2b) go to Task Scheduler>Task Scheduler Library>Microsoft>Windows>Media Center and find “MediaCenterRecoveryTask” and right clicking on that and choosing run, then after a second, right click again and click end. This will put your Media Center back to defaults (you will get an error when you open Media Center, but ignore it), and let you perform a first run again.
3) start media center following the epg123 guide on tv set up
4) reran the epg123.exe

Now I have guide listings!

I tried a test install of Win10 with the Media Center patch (v8.5) and using EPG123 and everything worked fine. However with the Anniversary release of Win10 just around the corner I am holding off making the switch for now.

The only reason I stuck with Win8 was so that I had a genuine install for the MS guide data.

Many of us have had bad luck when v2.1 is installed first, then, attempts to go to v12 have failed. Personally, in this same situation, I have found that doing a Win10 Reset, then going to v12 has worked fine.

Others report success removing v2.1 with the v8 uninstaller, then running SFC Scannow, as well as Restore Health and some other utility

Here is a pretty good How To

Oops wrong link. Here is the correct one to remove v2.1 and repair the damage.

Just the current public release (TH2 + Updates). Not anything from the preview rings.
