Actually testing Windows 10 Spring Creators Update insiders and seems like the end is near for WMC's adventure on Windows 10. Shared the issue on my blog (in french) confirmed with both 17127 and 17128.1 pre RTM releases:

OK...Actually i said in my post that Live TV or watching recorded TV does not with the Windows 10 "spring creators update" insider release (with WMC 8.8.1 version installed)
The (constant) error message is: "The video decoder is not working, is not installed, or is not supported. Try installing the codec or restarting your computer. For more information about codecs, see Windows Help."
The issue is for watching live TV and reading wtv files. Watching other video file as mpg, mkv, avi etc is OK. I tried with third party codec (ffdshow) and forced manually WMC to use them but without success
have anyone else made the same test?

EDIT: Microsoft released 17133 which seems to be the RTM, and same issue. NOTE: wtv files works properly with Windows Media Player. So the issue is only on Windows Media Center.

What about dvr-ms? If your determined to keep WMC you could also convert them to something else. I'm sure there are more than enough free tools to do that at least to play the files. One more thing to look into, I believe they are taking WMP out or adding it as something that must be enabled in future builds so you can look that direction also

EDIT Nevermind about wmp. https://www.google.com/amp/s/betanews.c ... layer/amp/

I'm in the UK and use WMC in Win10 to watch Freeview OTA SD + HD via TBS 6205 pcie cards (on 2 pcs). I have VMware, so I installed WMC on an updated Insiders as a test. Pcie passthrough is not available in VM, so I couldn't test the tuner, but I copied over a .wtv file to see if it would play. I got the same 'no codec' message as reported in post #1. I've been fixing WMC in Win10 2x a year for a while now, but I've never had that codec message before.

I don't know how far ahead Insiders is to regular Windows, but it's not looking good. Let's hope the original devs at MDL can come up with a solution.

The "original dev" of the version i use (8.8.1) has been banned from Mdl months ago...Since then, i knew that there won't newer version or bug fixes anymore.

My only hope is on windows10mediacenter.com team . Please give us some news of you guys. Can't believe the partys over like that

I am using WMC with Windows 10 x64 1803 17133.1 on two separate PCs and I have no problem watching Live TV or recording TV. The only issue I have is I can not watch any recording done before 17133.1. When I try, I get the same Decoder Error as referenced in an above post. However, I can use WMP to watch those programs.

I have installed V12 of the WMC.

Slightly different error was experienced with Win 8.1 Pro in the past.

Try reconfigure Recorded TV Library....Remove and then Re-add

Glad I could help.

Interesting find. I not reading a WTV could be just a codec issue, that MIGHT be able to be resolved with some registry hacks. We need some experts to see for sure.

I'll play with it when I get it... Not doing the preview program any more. Too unstable for my daily needed machine.

Error 0x8007007E appears to describe the failure of WindowsUpdate to load a dll. At least in the XP days. You might have to do a little research to figure out how to apply this to Win10

http://www.updatexp.com/0x8007007E.html

Even the previously simple task of viewing the log appears to be a big hassle with Win10.

Use PowerShell..... Get-WindowsUpdateLog

Not as much of a hassle than I had 1st thought. Running Get-WindowsUpdateLog in elevated PowerShell, results in decryption of the LogFile exported to the desktop.

When you view your log, can you see the error 0x8007007E ?

What needs to be Registered?

Life on the Bleeding Edge

Using my error as an example.... I believe that error 0x80070002 represents the failure to AddFlightObjects

Code: Select all

If I were inclined to fix mine.....

I would start here.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 97dfef17b8

Windows 10 AddFlightObjects failed: Error 0x80070002 This thread is locked from future replies
Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 build 14393 for x64-based Systems (KB3200970) fails on an HP DV7. Before we go too far, this was the first cumulative KB update after a complete reset and reinstall, so any solutions like wiping out and starting over do not work, except that the addpackage routine only seems to work for the install itself. I am only running Defender and the Firewall.

I ran PowerShells' Get-WindowsUpdateLog and found the subject error shown in the title.....
