I recall reading in the past that updates were not available on Sundays, but in my experience, I saw updates every day with zap2it data, and it is also what I see with Rovi data (when it is working).

There was no update from 2/4-2/6, then I got an update on 2/7 and then no update on 2/8.

Normally the updates were coming in the evening (and for a short period 3-4am in the morning), but now they seem to not come until around 8am the following day, so when I say there was no update for 2/8, I really mean the update that should have been available today (2/9) @~8am.

I started getting the "your guide listings will be out of date in 3 days" message 3 days ago. I was hoping it would eventually resolve itself, but as of today, I've got a guide full of "No data available."

I've been looking for the log files I saw someone pull info from earlier, but haven't found them. It looks like I found the same information in the Event Viewer, though (spread across 3 events):

Code: Select all

<Data>12:45:01 PM - Testing internet connection. 12:45:03 PM - Connection established. 12:45:04 PM - Retrieving Directory. 12:45:05 PM - Processing Directory. 12:45:05 PM - Processing of Directory is complete. 12:45:05 PM - The NetworkMetadata package is not available. 12:45:05 PM - Testing internet connection. 12:45:05 PM - Connection established. 12:45:05 PM - Retrieving ClientUpdate. 12:45:05 PM - Processing of ClientUpdate is complete. 12:45:05 PM - The ClientUpdate package is already up to date. 12:45:05 PM - Retrieving nettv. 12:45:07 PM - Retrieving nettv.</Data>

<Data>12:45:07 PM - Failed to retrieve nettv (Error: PackageName is invalid.)</Data>

<Data>12:45:07 PM - Retrieving MCESpotlight. 12:45:07 PM - Processing of MCESpotlight is complete. 12:45:07 PM - The MCESpotlight package is already up to date. 12:45:07 PM - Retrieving MCEClientUX. 12:45:08 PM - Processing of MCEClientUX is complete. 12:45:08 PM - The MCEClientUX package is already up to date. 12:45:08 PM - Retrieving SportsSchedule. 12:45:09 PM - Processing of SportsSchedule is complete. 12:45:09 PM - The SportsSchedule package is already up to date. 12:45:09 PM - Retrieving SportsV2. 12:45:09 PM - Processing of SportsV2 is complete. 12:45:09 PM - The SportsV2 package is already up to date. 12:45:10 PM - Retrieving Broadband. 12:45:10 PM - Processing of Broadband is complete. 12:45:10 PM - The Broadband package is already up to date. 12:45:10 PM - Retrieving EpgListings. 12:45:10 PM - Processing of EpgListings is complete. 12:45:10 PM - The EpgListings package is already up to date. 12:45:10 PM - Retrieving EpgListings. 12:45:10 PM - Processing of EpgListings is complete. 12:45:10 PM - The EpgListings package is already up to date. 12:45:17 PM - Errors during the last update. 12:45:17 PM - Will retry at 2/11/2016 3:25:32 AM.</Data>
From what I can see, everything appears to have worked, with the exception of the nettv package (which a search has indicated probably isn't important).

Any clue why I'm not getting listings? I'm not a WMC expert - I've got a very vanilla installation, no real customizations (my hosts file was modified in the past, but those entries have all been pounded out for quite a while). I just can't see where the failure is.

EDIT: I did some more reading, and ended up going through the TV signal setup again. The problem is fixed. I'm still curious, though - any immediate ideas from the information above as to what happened? It's obviously not worth wasting any time on, but it does make me wonder. Or do we just chalk this one up to the joys of WMC EPG?

This can happen if the lineup you use is no longer available (either removed or the lineup name/ID is changed). It has been known to happen to others in the past. The fix is to do what you did.

You can tell if you are using a different lineup by looking at the lineup ID number in the Event Viewer or in the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\Packages\EpgListings folder.

Sample from the Windows Media Center section in the event viewer:

Code: Select all

6:10:57 PM - Retrieving EpgListings.
6:10:58 PM - Processing EpgListings.
6:10:58 PM - Retrieving EpgListing.enc.
6:11:02 PM - Extracting 38617325_ListingData.mxf.
6:11:03 PM - Processing 38617325_ListingData.mxf.
6:12:57 PM - Processing of EpgListings is complete.
6:12:57 PM - Retrieving EpgListings.
6:12:58 PM - Processing EpgListings.
6:12:58 PM - Retrieving EpgListing-2.enc.
6:13:01 PM - Extracting 189859316_ListingData.mxf.
6:13:01 PM - Processing 189859316_ListingData.mxf.
6:13:18 PM - Processing of EpgListings is complete.
Here you can see 38617325_ListingData.mxf and 189859316_ListingData.mxf as two files that are downloaded, those numbers represent the IDs of the lineups you are using, one for terrestrial listings and the other for cable/satellite listings.

If those numbers have changed now from what they were in older Event Viewer entries, then you are using a different lineup then you were before.

You can also find folders within C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\Packages\EpgListings that contain the downloaded mxf files themselves. You may see files in there with different IDs and you can look at the dates on those files to see when they were downloaded. If the more recently downloaded files have a different number then older ones, then you know if is using a new lineup then it was before.

I happened to look at the guide last night (actually about 1:00 am this Saturday morning) and it only went out 8 days & a couple hours. I did a manual update & then it went out 11 days & a couple hours. IOW it was missing 3 days of data. In fact a program it recorded last night had only a generic description which is what made check the guide. The program also shows a generic description for next week. A step backwards for Rovi.
