I think this thread is as close to Wiki as you are going to get.

One little trick I use to quickly delete all the SD channels is....Select channel 2, then Press and hold Shift, then select channel 999 (now you have 1000 channels selected)

Press the SpaceBar will CheckMark (or remove checkmark) from all 1000.

I'm a registered user and have been having a problem with Guide Tool. I get an error just about every time I try to delete a channel or a group of channels. If I'm deleting one channel and proceed after getting the error, it gets deleted. If I'm deleting multiple channels and proceed after getting the error, sometimes only one gets deleted and other times some or all of the group gets deleted. It's frustrating and very unpredictable.

The error message is as follows:
"Failed to delete channel 'XXXX': system.InvalidOperationException: You cannot call clear on a Channels collection. Call Lineup.ClearAllChannels instead."

Also, some channels have something other than (1) for each tuner. I have an HDHomeRun PRIME. Any idea what that number signifies?

I never tried deleting a channel in GuideTool. I only add or remove the checkmark, so the channel doesn't show in WMC.

How exactly, do you delete a channel?

Right click and select Delete.
My understanding is that deleting unused channels will streamline the guide updates, since less data needs to be downloaded.

I shouldn't have said DELETE.

Removing the check mark doesn't delete the channel, it only prevents WMC from showing the channel in the guide, or playing the channel.

I usually trim my list from 600 to about 100. No SD's, no shopping, no foreign language. Likely could trim more, but I keep a few for guests.

While hiding them from the guide is an option, I would prefer to delete them entirely so they no longer appear in WMC or GuideTool. Would you mind trying to delete a few unused channels to see if you get the same error?

I understand what you are saying, and there might be a benefit, however, I would rather not. I do not delete unless I know how to recover.

I will look in to that and get back to you.

There is quite a lot written here at TGB. I got 276 hits by typing delete a channel in the search box in the top right corner of this page.

Do a restore point before your experiment.

Getting back to my original post, I just want to use GuideTool to delete multiple channels like it was designed to do. I just need to know what is causing the error. My guess is that only the developer will be able to help with this.

Attempting to setup a replacement Window 7 Media Center for the one that just died.

when I attempt to activate Guide Tool, I get an error.

anyone know if this this software still supported?

error is:

The activation server is no longer active.

Check this thread for info on a version that does not require activation.

Hello,
I have guide tool 1.4 on a HTPC with Windows 7 64-bit. I used to be able to customize my WMC guide with GuideTool but now, the Guide Services on the right side is empty and the Lineup dropdown box does not contain the 4 services shown in WMC settings\tv\guide\about guide listings. I've tried various order of starting WMC and guide tool, starting as administrator, etc but can't find a way to get the GuideTool lineup dropdown to reflect my WMC guide settings. Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks

I've never found what Guide Tool is choking on, but I've never seen it come back without a complete wipe of the database... maybe a forced update can fix it? (start /wait c:\windows\ehome\mcupdate.exe -uf).

If all you want to do is map stations to channels, rename or renumber channels, then EPG123 would be an option. Just run the client (epg123Client.exe).

I have historically used Guide Tool 1.2.9 but I found this thread in an attempt to find a download for version 1.4.

I downloaded the 1.4 zip file and expanded it but when I try running it, I get the usual initial connecting to localhost dialog and then it crashes. The older 1.2.9 version still runs.

I am using Media Center in Windows 7 64-bit.

Any suggestions?

Solved it. I had to find a full 1.4 installer and then I could use the cracked version.
Now that I have achieved this I cannot see anything different. :? It is showing the new version number.
