MCE Reset Toolbox registration dead?

#1

Post by Akin » Sat Mar 04, 2017 10:38 pm

I have been trying MCE Reset Toolbox to customize the ribbons on my Windows 7 living room PC and it was working out really well for me. However, my trial period expired. It looks like the website is now down and there is no longer a way to obtain a registration key.

Anyone have one I could use, or suggestions on how I could obtain one?

Thanks

PS
This was the website I was using:

Postmaster reports that it is unable to send a message to that email address.

Oh well it was worth the try.

If anyone has any other suggestions I'm very much still open to them.

Let us know if he replies, maybe he will make it freeware if he cant take orders any more...

Media Center studio will not run on 8 or 10, but, MCE reset toolbox will and it's a little better built...

thought i would share a solution since i too was dealing with the trial ending before i could finish my menu layout...

if you go into the program directory ("Program Files/ACS Digital/MCE Reset Toolboox"), you will find a file named 'Trial.dll'. if you simply delete this file and then attempt to start the program it will give you an error message but after hitting cancel the program loads and appears to function normally. i was able to change and save my menus no problem. hope this helps!

*** just fyi I'm not trying to cheat the developer, i was planning on purchasing the program but the register link appears to be dead as others have noted

You sir are a legend!

I tried to track down an active email address for the developer to purchase a key but all avenues failed.

Thanks for sharing this workaround!!

Thanks this was so helpful. If we hear from the developer I'm happy to contribute as well.

It's too bad. It was a pretty good program... I wish the dev would open it up but, with no contact, I guess the only way for people to use it is to do a hack method to it....sigh...

At least it works...

Does anyone have the file that they can send me? I have my registration key, but no installation file! I can't find it anywhere. It looks like the site is dead and never coming back. You can send the install file to mechanicaldesigner42@yahoo.com. Ugh.... more media center orphan software. :(

Thanks! I actually found the install file on a site after reading the thread and posting the request, and I was able to install it.

This didn't work for me. Deleting that file still shows the message that my trial has expired, and no matter what I select, the program does not launch. Also the trial.dll file gets regenerated, apparently from AppData/Roaming/ACSDigital -- and deleting the file just from there does nothing different. And if I delete the file from there, it comes up with an "Exception Raised" dialog stating "an unexpected error occurred, could not find file" and if I click cancel (to attempt to continue), it just sittings on the green gear spinning logo indefinitely.

Any ideas? I set this up in October, looked promising, but some changes got reverted somehow, but now I can't get back into the program to do anything. I read somewhere else that a user had MCS (Media Center Studio) installed first before Reset Toolbox and that suppressed the trial stuff, but I do not have MCS. I'd be willing to try if I could find an installer!

EDIT: I found this copy of MCS, and it works for changing menus, but I still can't get past the trial in Reset Toolbox.

Spoke too soon, after a successful menu edit earlier today with MCS, now WMC crashes while opening. Used System Restore to undo. Hope to get back into Reset Toolbox somehow...
