Win7 64 bit drivers for Conexant 23880 tuner

#1

Post by jjacksqr » Tue Jan 26, 2016 7:06 pm

I have an old ntsc pci tuner (Conexant 23880 Video Capture (Blackbird NTSC Dual Input) and Conexant 2388x MPEG Encoder).
I had this tuner in a WinXP Media Center PC. Later I got a Vista 32 bit PC and put this tuner along with an ATSC tuner (Hauppauge). At that time, all drivers installed without issue.
I have now upgraded to Win7 64 bit. The ATSC tuner drivers installed with ease.
I haven't been able to find drivers for the Conexant 23880 that work with Win7 64 bit.
I got instructions from:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 6e2?page=1
and
http://www.driversguru.com/driverfile-C ... P.zip.html
These don't seem to work with Win7 64 bit.
Has anyone successfully found drivers for Conexant 23880? I would still like to record ntsc shows from cable.
Thank you

Sounds like all you can do is run the driver compatibility mode for XP service pack 2 and run as Administrator.

If that doesn't work, go through device manager and update driver....Don't let it search-click Browse my computer....When it asks where to search, type in C:\

I just did the same thing with an old Quadro video card from XP days in Win10

The Quadro part is about 32 lines down from the beginning of the post.

I don't know if this will work but its worth a shot.

Thanks for your response. I have Win7 64 bit Premium and don't think compatibility mode is available.
I've tried getting the 32-bit driver through search C:\. Windows 7 64 bit won't install the 32 bit driver. I thought about forcing the installation by modifying the *inf files for the drivers (CatalogFile=cx88enc.cat instead of CatalogFile.ntx86=cx88enc.cat), but information on the web indicates that this is risky.

I had to try installing the 32 bit driver first. Actually I tried numerous drivers that all failed, however during the failures the drivers had extracted their files to the install folder. So when I did the search c:\ thing, driver update was searching the folders that had just previously failed.

Some zip/rar extractors will allow you to unzip the driver exe file. I think I read that 7zip can do this. If you can find the correct extractor and get the inf's out of the exe, it might work for you. Let windows decide if it wants to use the inf.

Then you can blame Bill if it blows up!

It appears Compatibility mode is available in 7 premium. See if you can get into it by right clicking the driver exe. or you can take the long way around.

Are you saying that your 64-bit OS installed a 32-bit driver? If that's true, I have hope. From everything I've read on the Web, installing a 32-bit driver on a 64-bit system isn't possible.
I haven't been able to try compatibility mode yet, but I will.
At first, I thought you were talking about running a virtual machine with XP on Win7. That is only supported for Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate. Not Premium.
Thanks for your help.
