WMC does not detect ClearQAM

#1

Post by mistarick » Fri Feb 14, 2014 5:52 pm

Hey guys. I recently discovered that my tuner (Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1250) which has been working well with WMC for analog cable channels, picks up over 300 clear qam channels through setup in win TV 7. Why does WMC not recognize these channels as they are not encrypted? Thoughts?

Probably because the channel names/numbers don't match any lineups in the guide data. You can add QAM channels and assign them to the appropriate lineup manually, but it would be a pain to do it for 300 channels.

I'm not saying that id like to add them all manually but if I were to add a few here and there. Is there a guide explaining how to do this. I suppose that I could just Google that lol. Thanks for all the advice Barnabas! You are quite knowledgeable.

I will say that after flipping through some of the channels, the quality is much better on most of them. Wow. Looks like I got some figuring to do. They must be all HD broadcasts where as my analog stations are mostly sd I'm guessing?

Yes, all analog channels are SD. Digital channels can be either SD or HD. In most cases, a digital channel will look better than an analog channel, even if the digital one is SD.

I don't remember exactly how to add a channel. I'm sure you'll figure it out. It's an option in the settings menu. You can also do it with Guide Tool.

The only thing I'm running into is that wmc will tune the added qam channels but not every time. When it doesn't it tells me that I may need to adjust my tuner and them I have to close and reopen wmc. Looks like ill have to put some time into this and see where it takes me. Thanks for the info guys. Appreciate it.
