Holy Cow HI MIKE!! Long time no see.. Hope you're doing well!!
Yep I saw and installed that update shortly after manually removing the 3004394 update... Glad they pulled it, it messed up more than MCE!

I had this issue as well, however, removing this update did not fix the issue. See my other post on my 8 hour ordeal but ultimately reverting back to Windows 7 Ultimate fixed the issue. Seems crazy, but I had tried everything, but by moving back to Windows 7, I changed where the problem lied, and that is within the Ceton Windows 8 driver.

I just noticed that Microsoft pushed this out again yesterday. My HTPC installed it again. Did they resolve the issues or do I need to remove it again!?

I seem to have installed it, no issues with ETH6 or Echo, but I oddly didn't have any issues originally before it was pulled either.

The error: "Display driver error. The video playback device does not support playback of protected content" is caused by a connection of more than 1 monitor to the media pc. The solution is to go into the display setup and change the display setting to use just one monitor. To do this:

1. Close Windows Media Center
2. Right click anywhere on the desktop background
3. Select "screen resolution"
4. In the section marked "Multiple displays:" select "show desktop only on 1 or 2 (whichever monitor you prefer to use)
5. Restart Windows Media Center.

You should be able to have full HDCP and DCA compliance while still maintaining an extended desktop mode, correct? This would be for us with HDMI 1.3 AVRs who need to output a HDMI 1.4 signal to a TV/PJ, too. You should be able to send the primary signal to your display, while extending the desktop to the AVR for bitstreaming audio. Unless something has changed recently. :problem:

What do these 2 comments have to do with Update 3004394?

KB 3004394 apparently throws a video error, gtenyc2015 stated the video error was caused by having two monitors connected, and I was clarifying that "clone" mode is not allowed but "extended" should be.

Regardless, I noticed that KB 3004394 -- after being pulled in December 2014 -- is now available as an "optional" download and install through Windows Update. It's now dated 2/10/2015. Anyone installed that update and verified it doesn't break DCA compliance as when previously released in December?

I see, post 65 was commenting on post 16. I was wondering where the display driver error came from.

So, I know this is an old thread, but I'm having Playready issues with NEW Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center x64 installations on different hardware that previously worked. I tried all the usual suggestions but no dice. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks.
