Microsoft not supporting Netflix in Windows Media Center!?

#1

Post by sr22 » Wed Dec 19, 2012 11:17 pm

Hello everyone.

I turned on my HTPC this morning and proceeded to Netflix for some streaming fun, and got the error message saying something was wrong with my account. Please login again... I tried.. No good. I searched for the answer and saw nothing about this. I then proceeded to chat with a Netflix associate and after a lot of back and forth they said that Microsoft is no longer supporting Netflix in WMC. WHAT? I have seen nor heard of anything recently to support this. Why then does Netflix still show up in WMC? I could find nothing on Microsoft's site that was even remotely close to what I was looking for.

Has anyone had this issue? Has anyone even heard of this issue?

Thanks in advance for reading.

Unless you (and all the other people posting about this issue) installed an update from Microsoft yesterday, then the change must have happened at the Server side - which means that Netflix is the party that has stopped supporting Netflix in WMC!

Same problem. Noticed the problem on both my HTPC's. started yesterday. Tried resetting silverlight but did no good. Tried erasing the netflix logon in the registry; then starting WMC and re-entering Netflix logon data; still same problem. No problem logging on in IE9, however.

Last time I brought this up, I was told by MS and this was Netflix's to support, not MS - not saying that is correct, but it's what I was told...

Thanks for the responses. I just got off another chat with Netflix. Now they say that it is a netflix problem and that their engineering team is on it and they should have the problem fixed in a few hours... First it is Microsoft now it is Netflix.... Who knows. Why the hell do they want to kill all the best things about WMC? I'm not asking for the world, just netflix inside of WMC!

I just fired up Netflix through Win 7 MCE and all was well for me. I watched a bit of a carton my son started - and switched over to a movie for 20 minutes or so. No problem over here.

I'm having the same problem. Did all of the usual steps on win7 and 8. I was starting to think it was me! Hopefully netflix fixes this ASAP! Without netflix, I may as well be using *nix.

I started having this issue on the 18th  (along with issues with my Media center remote crashing on me  )... and did a complete format of the hard drive  ... Once I got it back up and running, same issue. Ill have to find a XBMC plugin to run netflix on my big screen in the mean time

Mine works fine. I'm running Win7 x64. I do not install Windows Updates, ever.

I had the same issue. I also called Netflix and they reset my password. This did no good. Netflix does work thru the browser but like everyone else this does not help me with the remote control. The people at Netflix did not have a clue and stated that it was a Microsoft problem. I agree with the earlier poster that stated that Netflix probably did something. I did not take any updates and I have four computers that had this issue at the same time.

Please post anything that may help.

This happened a week after Patch Tuesday, so it's fairly obvious that it's not related to a Windows Update, unless everyone waits exactly one week before applying their updates.

Why are some still working? I agree this is not an update issue.

x64 for me me too - and all updates are current. Not sure what the deal is - but glad I am not impacted. The world might end if Bob the Builder and Diego could not get in to our house!

Well, not *never*. But *rarely*. And this is why.

This thing isn't a multipurpose computer. The only web work it sees is Youtube, very occasionally. Other than that, it's a DVR, plain and simple. No need for updates. If it's not broken, don't fix it.

And I've seen enough of these Netflix issues crop up over the last couple of years, the updating just worries me that much more.
