Volume on commercials
WMC blasts the volume on commercials. Is there a way to make it so commercials aren't so much louder than the TV shows? I don't have this problem with my FIOS STBs.

Go to Control Panel-->Sound, Playback tab, Properties button, Enhancements tab, and check Loudness Equalization.

That "Loudness Equalization" option shouldn't do anything if you are sending the audio as DD.5.1 to your TV or AVR.
If you want to send PCM audio (either 2 channel or 5.1 channel), then WMC has a option tasks-> TV > audio -> "Auto volume"
Minimizes the volume difference across TV channels. Disabes Dolby output.

FWIW, I already had "Auto volume" selected and it actually did not help for the volume difference b/w TV shows and commercials. the equalization seemed to make a difference.

In December the new volume regulation law kicks in, and this shouldn't be a problem any more.

These "commercials" are something that goes by in a flash during ff or gets auto removed with another program but I have not seen them in a very long time. I hope there vacation last's indefinitely.

Switched tvs and this became an issue. Must have had a setting on the old TV that managed volume. Grateful for this forum. Issue solved.
