Noise on Showtime

#1

Post by hakamarob » Mon Feb 13, 2012 6:01 am

Hi folks,

I was wondering if anyone has seen anything like this sort of noise before. It only happens on the premiums: Sho mostly, sometimes on HBO. Any ideas?

Welcome to the club. This is exactly what is reported in this post. Ceton is aware of the issue and they reported several months ago that they have been able to replicate the problem. So far, however, there is no fix.

Edit: I corrected the link to point to the first page of the thread.

If only the priority list was jumbled up a bit....but of course, when people aren't beating down your doors demanding a fix....

In other words, I'm pretty sure this is a low priority issue due to the lack of consumer complaints. Perhaps if more consumers complained about the issue, this would be a higher priority at Ceton. I'm guilty of not complaining myself....I'm sure other people are as well.

I've complained plenty... here on this site and at WEC. However, I have not opened a support ticket with Ceton. When Erkotz announced that they had duplicated the problem, I assumed that a fix would be coming soon. I guess you know what happens when you AssUMe?

You should open a ticket. So should everyone with the problem. That's the only way to make support aware. I'm not sure who initially handles support tickets at ceton now. Back in the early days it seemed like the people with hands on knowledge did... now it doesn't seem that way at all. The impression I was left with after opening my ticket recently about this problem was that the person at the other end had never heard of it...

If I may throw a spanner in the works, I get HBO Canada and I have never seen the issues described on any show on that or any other channel.

I'm not sure what different process the feed(s) may go through, if any, compared to what you folks are experiencing.

Do you have Switched Digital Video (SDV)? In other words... do you have a Tuning Adapter connected to a USB port on your HTPC?

No. I understood this issue not to be related to SDV users alone?

No SDV here and I see the issue.

Hmmm... that's interesting. I seem to only see it on SDV channels. Maybe that's because those are the channels we tune with the Ceton the most. ClearQAM channels get tuned by my Hauppauge tuners because those tuners are set to a higher priority for those channels. All of my locals come in ClearQAM. All of the premium channels that I care to watch are SDV.
