I'm a total 7MC newb. I have been using SageTV with a linux server & hardware extenders for the last few years, and MythTV becore that. Since SageTV is dead, and I now have an Xbox360 to use as an extender, I decided to try out 7MC. I'm running it with a single HDHR tuner for now, and I will move over more of my 6 tuners once I get the setup stable. Things seem to be working more-or-less OK, but I'm having an odd problem.
All the recordings I've made so far all have bad timelines. What I mean is that for a 30 minute recording (with no padding), the timeline shown by the OSD when fastforwarding or skipping in the file on playback says it is anywhere from 34 to 46 minutes long. I recorded a 4 hr NFL game, and the timeline showed roughly 6 hours. This makes skipping around to locations in the file very hard to do (and I imagine it will play hell with things like comskip, so I am waiting to set that up until this is fixed). This happens on all stations.
I'm almost certain that this is a recording problem, but it does not seem to be due to reception problems (eg, the recording plays perfectly). If I attempt to playback the .WTV file with a media player like VLC, it also shows the wrong time. *BUT*, if I use ffmpeg to extract the audio & video and remux it into a standard mpg container (,ffmpeg.exe -y -i "showname.dvr-ms" -vcodec copy -acodec copy -f dvd "showname.mpg") the time is exactly correct.
ffmpeg says this about the a sample 30min recording which is shown with a timeline length of around 34:23, but which is really just 30:00 long:
