Tunersalad Confusion

#1

Post by Rickt1962 » Thu Jan 18, 2018 7:15 pm

My setup is Win7 using WMC with WMC channel guide with 2 HDhomeRuns 6 tuners total on Comcast.

Installed Tunersalad a week or so ago.

Last night I noticed WMC showed tuner conflict it was trying to record 5 shows unless I resolve it. 6 tuners where free I checked. Now Im worried how many shows didn't record the past week or so ! Anyone else have trouble with tunersalad ? And is there a way to check on WMC to find out who didn't get recorded ?

I don't use Tuner Salad but you can see past failed recording issues by using the "History" option within WMC. It will display a log of your recording history.

After you install Tuner Salad, I believe you have to do something in WMC to get it to recognize all the tuners, but I am sure someone else who has experience with this will be able to tell you what needs to be done.

In order to gain the use of more than the default number of 4 tuners, after TunerSalad has been run you need to perform a TV Setup again.

1. Setup WMC with only 4 tuners
2. Apply TunerSalad to increase limit to 32 tuners
3. Setup WMC with up to 32 tuners
4. Done.

In order for tunersalad to work, there has to be an already existing mcepg database to squirt the limit change into (it overrides some ehres.dll resource settings to increase the limit). After that, every time you perform another TV Setup, as long as the database has not been deleted, you will have the maximum 32 limit.

Can someone please tell me how to get TunerSalad? Their web page shows downloading closed until 2018. Sent them an email many days ago and still no reply. Thanks for any help...

So you are saying that EPG123 will replace WMC program guide and also allow me to install another tuner card? What is the tuner limit of EPG123?

Thank you so much. I will check it out!

Yes. 24, I believe. Same as TunerSalad. It's a feature added within the last few releases. & you'll still need to re-scan in WMC to detect the additional tuners.

It also now supports:

- translation of recording schedule from ROVI to SD (within limits)
- subscriptions/lineup/schedule backup
- channel logos (like MCLXL)
- various WMC tweaks

It has become a VERY handy addition to WMC.

May I ask? If I just want to increase the number of tuners WMC will allow me to use do I need to pay the $25/YR fee for EPG123? WMC works fine for me other than the 4 tuner limit. Any thoughts?

I'm pretty sure you can just run "epg123Client.exe" and then click on the "Tweak WMC" button to enable the tweaks without having to use EPG123 and Schedules Direct as your guide data provider. So no need to pay anything, although you can still make a donation to Gary to thank him for EPG123.

You could always install the Ceton Infinty 6 driver, it does the same thing.

I am using Hauppauge QuadHD tuners in my HTPC. If I install the Ceton drivers will they cause any issues with my tuners? Do the Ceton drivers automatically unlock my 4 extra tuners or do I have to do something manually?

It shouldn't. If you install the Ceton drivers for the tuner limit increase, check out this post (http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/vie ... 14#p119914). But you are actually installing a software package that you don't need.

I would suggest simply downloading the portable version of epg123 and run the epg123Client.exe file. Click the [Tweak WMC] button and then click the [Increase] button to increase the limit. You will still need to run TV Setup again in WMC to actually get more than 4 tuners working.

Just a note about EPG123. The main configuration GUI (epg123.exe) is all about getting the guide from Schedules Direct and creating the MXF file. The EPG123 Guide Tool (epg123Client.exe) can be used by anyone to perform guide mappings and tweaks. No subscription needed.
