OK temporaily fixed recordings for now with a Control Panel-Programs and Features-Turn Windows Features on and off-Media Features-Windows Media Center - unticked reboot reticked
Not reinstalled any updates for now
Recordings now working ok
Also system restore was somehow disabled so I couldn't rollback
I had three entries in system restore, one for drive D (disabled- as per my choice) and two for 'drive C' - the current one and one for another C drive maked 'not found'
Not the slightest idea how that happened
WMC Stopped Working - muliple times

A week on, trying to find the cause of my problem
Established a restore point, added these updates individually followed by a restore point
2018-01 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1 on Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB4055532)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - January 2018 (KB890830)
There was no impact on WMC recording functionality, it works exactly as expected
Running a check for updates offered no other updates so the following updates were downloaded individually as .exe files
Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel Viewer 2007 (KB4011606)
Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB4011201)
Security Update for Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 3 (KB4011607)
Security Update for Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 3 (KB4011605)
When run the response every time was 'there are no products affected by this package on this system'
The windows update history from immediately prior to the WMC upset a week ago shows the importance of these updates as 'important' and the status as 'successful'
The excel viewer IS still installed
I only need to get Acronis running again to return to how things were prior to the imposed situation a week ago

Hey all, finally registered here thanks to this problem. In my case I ran win UD Tues. 1/30/18 - had several sched. recordings complete after UD - but at 12:32 am 1/31/18 - wmc cut off a recording before completion (partial) and has not recorded anything since.
I can watch & delete previous recordings. I can watch, pause, FF/RW live-TV - but trying to record any thing results in wmc pop-up saying wmc stopped working / need to restart wmc.
After finding this thread, I ran sys restore using the 1/30/18 date. After, "completion" - got a pop-up saying restore had NOT completed - but checked wmc & I can now record again. If other sched records work tonight, I guess I will try the, one-at-a-time UD, that others are reporting works.

Looks like we came to the same conclusion independently.See my post in another thread:
"After rolling back my system restore point I think the issue is with Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB4033342)
The Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.1 is a highly compatible, in-place update for all the previous versions of .NET Framework 4.X. After you install this update, you may have to restart your computer.

We had trouble with Scheduled Recordings using Win10 with WMC V11 We used a CMD that made Scheduled Recordings work.
Elevated CMD Prompt...then...
It wouldn't surprise me if the update you discovered, lowered some of your privledges.
Elevated CMD Prompt...then...
Code: Select all
net localgroup "administrators" "Network Service" /add
