ehthumbs_vista.db
I ask for help in case someone has found a solution for this issue.
WMC makes use of the ehthumbs_vista.db file in the \users\appdata\microsoft\ ehome directory to store the WMC thumbails, the problem is that every so often the system seems to erase it and re-create it with the time problem It costs to regenerate those thumbails again.
This happen when the file gets bigger, around 50-60 MB (I think so) and ehthumbs_vista.db is generated again
Anybody has encountered this problem and has been able to solve it? I searched the internet but found no fix to this.
Thanks

My Win7 WMC system does not have this file, it may only be use with the Vista version of WMC. Are you using Vista? If so, there are probably not many people that use this and may be why you are not getting any responses.

Thanks to answer, WMC Win7 has this file but it's hidden.
Try to active in the explorer for hidden files and there is under \ehome directory.

I already have hidden files viewable. I am not looking in the path you gave because my system does not have it, I am looking here:
\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\eHome
Where "<user>" is the logged in user.

The roaming directory is for the coverdvd cache and other things.Space wrote:I already have hidden files viewable. I am not looking in the path you gave because my system does not have it, I am looking here:

If you are using Windows Media Center then you must to have the file ehthumbs_vista.db on \users\"user"\appdata\microsoft\ ehome,
I have looked at 2 machines with Windows Media Center working, one with Windows Pro x64 and the other with x32 and have ehthumbs_vista.db.
Anyway it seems like that you do not have my issue recreating the file ehthumbs_vista.db .

First, I don't have a problem with the file.
On my pc, it is a 'System' file under AppData\Local for a user:

Thanks for the response TheReaper, please could you tell me what size the file has?
I think the recreating issue file comes when the size is over 50 or 60 MB.

I did find this file in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\ehome and it is only 1.6 MB.
I assume this is only used for thumbs for external videos (like AVI files) and not for the regular recorded stuff (WTV), so that may be why it is so small on my system, since I have very few videos other than WTV files.

Yes, you're right, it's used for videos and photos only, I have a lot of them.Space wrote:I did find this file in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\ehome and it is only 1.6 MB.
