i know that for WMC networking, using cheap $20 switches around the house works just fine. but how about for only $53, a 24-port, and whopping 3.5MB Buffer Memory, wow?!

Do a little more research.... Is that 3.5 buffer per port.... or shared between 24 ports.....

$50 bucks can get you a Prosafe

Ask Venom over in networking what models are suggested these days

ty :) but NETGEAR ProSAFE (JFS524) is only 10/100.

And i needed a gigabit switch like the Netis ST3124G 24-Port Switch, for use with two PCs (HTPC and Gaming Rig) in me Man-cave- (in addition to SOHO/WMC extenders).

and i like the Netis ST3124G's 19-inch size too- but no need to make a joke of that. ;)

wat i really needed was just another discount priced 4, 5, or 8-port Gb switch for $20, to go in place of a MOCA adapter (and to be shared with PC in breakfast room) because MOCA adapters are still so expensive and it would become a backup MOCA adapter for use around the house if one breaks or just use it for diagnosing probs. But every time i thought of getting a switch on sale the past year, the price was full retail. So i started shopping for an 16, or even a 24-port... just for the HOI. :) and then just swapping it with existing 8-port in Man-cave and using old 8-port to replace said MOCA adapter in breakfast room.

i wanted to get a Gb switch that was: 16 to 24-port, fan-less, under $60, full-size (19-inch) in order have internal PSU, and it does the dishes, clothes, etc.. and LEDs look too cool man... ;)

Netis ST3124G 24-Port Switch, seems to all be all ^^.

ty again for the rpy, Crash2009! because when the Netis ST3124G 24-Port Switch arrives Friday, i can now swap it in my sleep if need be after explaining it to u. :) but the box and handle it has is so cool, i might play Mission Impossible for a few days first with it and then swap it with old switch and old switch with MOCA adapter. ;) i luv tech! :D

Edit 1: and TY for the Venom in networking suggestion, too!

cool np. those look nice. ty

but i've never bought PC hardware from Ebay due to always trying 1st at local retail (in order to easily return and exchange) and 2nd trying NE only online (with NE i've always just patiently waited for sale prices- and because customer service at least in past years (hint hint NE), was always beyond belief and just plain awesome). A few years ago i started using Amazon too. My local Fry's Electronics has been great when it comes to price matching the past few years. so it's great if u have one near by. :) (i have surely missed CompUSA. ) Ebay has always turned me off due to not ever having a PayPal account and fear of using Ebay without one. I guess it IS a great tool for researching though; and i have many times read reviews and viewed pics of hardware on Ebay.

My, Netis ST3124G 24-Port Switch, arrived today and the packaging was perfect thanks to Netis using a great box that protected it regardless of how well or poorly the shipper packaged it. ("A++ Netis!" and "D-- NewEgg!") Netis also kept production costs down by sending just the bare necessities- so, it is pretty much OEM, but with the best packaging- the padding inside is SIK. And the box is like a briefcase with locking tabs that flip open and close quickly, plus there's an industrial plastic handle so well made that it is suitable for using as luggage let along a businesses briefcase. It is so well thought out it reminded me of the best PC hardware packaging ever... the "Razer Mamba Wireless Mouse (RZ01-01360100-R3U1)" that i got last x-mas... that mouse was the 1st thing i ever saw to surpass Corsair PSU boxes and all the extra care they take.

now i guess i should start playing Mission Impossible with my new Switch and its' briefcase-of-a-box. lol (i've carried it a few times already between one of two rooms and opened it twice already.)

The Switch is ready to go on a Mission. ;) So i could maybe... take advantage of all the extra ports i have now by making up several thought experiments. Ones that involve using multiple NICs on the two PCs in the Man-cave where the new Switch is being swapped in. Or just start out simple, and plop the new switch in, in place of the existing one. Maybe i could focus on the HTPC only, and try getting better bandwidth for HDTV with two NICs in it... now that i no longer have just the "Ceton USB tuner", and i have the "Ceton InfiniTV 6 ETH", right? (Although everything is fine and there's no need need to fix anything. Currently i'm using four Xbox WMC extenders np; with three on MOCA adapters and one Ethernet.) i just think that Ethernet is a little better than MOCA for Sports, because of all the non-stop pause, FF, and RR that u do with it. Although, the upgrade from, USB Ceton, to Ceton InfiniTV 6 ETH, was already an unbelievable improvement. :)

i can't wait for the ppl at, SiliconDust HDHomeRun, to put out a six or more tuner device! :)

TY again, Crash2009! :)
