RDP into headless Win 7 Media Center Server
I used to be to remotely log into my WIndows Media Center 7 (64bit)Server and change settings and stuff. I do not have this server on auto update because it just works. However, recently when I try to launch Windows Media Center via Team Viewer, it just all goes black and crashes the session. I have also tried Chrome Remote Desktop and have the same problem. I have to reboot to get back in. I searched for some articles with permission related stuff, but nothing has worked. Anyone ever have this problem? I need to be able to get and manage my channel lineup.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Did you try to run in it in Window instead of full screen and do your changes ?
When I was using team viewer to watch TV over a remote connection, I found running at full screen can cause a black screen.

We started working on RDP into Win10 on or about The first week of February 2016.
Graznok came up with the Hex edits, T-S later on put it together as a 1-Click Installer. David requested that Win7 be modified the same way.
Have a read through.....I think the project was complete by the end of the month.

If it is just the ability to run WMC in an RDP session then this might help
I investigated and found that the reg key permissions for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\Rdp-Tcp key did not include any permissions for the Users group, as the other subkeys did. Perhaps one of the RDP Updates modified these permissions? Anyway, when I added read permissions for this key for Users, WMC shell once again would start inside a RDP session.

I assume when you say shell, you can go to the EPG and make WMC start recording?Rainey wrote:If it is just the ability to run WMC in an RDP session then this might help

Rainy, i'm seeing the same thing - ehshell crash in RDP session when i try to start. I'm not trying to playback over RDP, just manipulate recordings and settings. I applied the users permission in regedit to the key you listed, and rebooted, but that didn't help. Any more ideas?
Update: Instead of applying just Read-Only, I changed to Full Control and rebooted again, and that worked. I don't know what level of permissions is required but looks like more than just read only.

Well it didn't work for. I get a black screen. From there I go to "Actions" in TeamViewer and logoff. When I log off I can see WMC briefly.
I updated TeamViewer on both machines and everything started working again. Odd as they were running the same version.

Now I remember.....RDPWrapper is installed so you can have multiple RDP Sessions. The screencap is Win7 connecting to Win10. I only had 3 tuners at the time....3 LiveTV and 2 RecordedTV. The screens are offset due to miss-matched monitors on the Win7 box. I never did get DRM to play longer than 3-4 seconds.
MS has an RDP app in the Play Store. A little bit of Port Forwarding is needed in the router.
FullScreen is achieved using software named Actual Multiple Monitors. Others claim Maxifer works just as well. You can also do "FAKE FULLSCREEN" Stretch the WMC window until it is almost full.
One other note....If you are in full screen, and the screen is black/blank, the minimise maximise and close buttons are in the same place as they always are, (you just cant see them) click around in the top right corner, you will find them eventually. I marked the spot with a piece of tape so I could find it easily, while working towards completion of the fullscreen section of the project.

Is there a way for a machine to RDP into itself to view multiple channels on one machine, or does this have to be done on a remote machine?

Do you think it's refusing the connection based solely on the address? I ask because I'm wondering what a spoofed up or proxy would do

If I just want to watch TV, I can use unlimited instances of an Internet Browser LAN or WAN and connect through Emby.
The idea behind RDP WMC was that you could completely control WMC. Watch TV, Settings config, Program recordings, etc PLUS the novelty of having the Softsled Project that was dropped 11 years ago.
There are other ways also. Have a look around here for something called Sports Bar. If you have 4 tuners, you can watch them all at the same time.

I have always used TightVNC for this without any problems. It won't let me watch TV, but I can do everything else. I set it up a long time ago, but IIRC there were no permission issues or other complexities. Just enabled it and it works.

As part of my attempted sports refresh, I've already talked to the author of sports bar. I'm trying to find ways around some of his problems. How do you set this up through browsers and emby?
