The main problem I have with MC is when mcupdate.exe (WMC Store Update Manager) is running the MC user interface stops working. It continues to play a show, but if you want to stop or rewind etc. the screen usually turns black and controls are frozen until mcupdate.exe finishes which can take several minutes.
I've struggled with this issue for years and here are some of the steps I have taken.
Searched the web for solutions, add a SSD boot drive, reloaded Win 7 from scratch (several times), replaced my gen 4 Pentium with an i3 that was twice as powerful. But mcupdate.exe uses a max of 25% so I have plenty of headroom. But none of this helped at all.
My rig is Win7 sp1 and up to date on patches, has a i3-4360, MSI H97 PC Mate MB, 8gb ram, and a boot SSD, about 20tb of HD storage, a Ceton infiniTV 6eth for cable and a Hauppauge 2250 for OTA.
