Starting a few weeks ago, videos will sometimes play without any sound. This never happens to live or recorded TV - only to videos that I've ripped or downloaded or something like that. It's not a codec issue or anything, because there's a workaround. If I stop the video and play it again, it sometimes works. If that doesn't work after 2-3 times, I'll close WMC, re-open it, and it works every time.
This isn't the biggest problem in the world, but it's pretty annoying. It (seemingly) always happens when we finally get everybody settled and ready to watch a movie, and then everybody has to sit around and groan about the "stupid computer thing" causing problems.
Any thoughts? Any ideas I might have are thrown off by the fact that TV isn't affected, and that it can be fixed by stopping/starting or opening & closing.
Intermittent lack of sound on videos (not TV)

Did you ever find a solution?
Try setting your sound up like this.
Windows should be configured to output to two speakers and exclusive mode should be enabled.
