How to play Blu Ray comfortably?

#1

Post by Trupik » Sun Nov 19, 2017 6:34 pm

Hi,
is here (in end of year 2017) any solution how to play BR discs comfortably? Just put disc into drive, press play on remote and watch? Without ripping, without using mouse / keyboard, XBOX like extender,...?
With Google i was able to find two plugins: Power DVD and TotalMedia Theatre. But WMC plugin was removed from Power DVD before two versions and TMT looks dead too :(

Thanks,
T.

Yea but, no WMC plugin if I am correct. That means relaunch or something to get it to show up in WMC.

Does any Blu-ray software still have a WMC plugin ?

I have only used Powerdvd 15 but its integration with WMC is pretty good. The look of PowerDVD matches windows media center, and it gives me the option to add a start menu tile. Also when I play a DVD or Bluray, I get an option to open it with WMC or PowerDVD from within WMC itself. For everything else, I would imagine that you could add a start menu entry point for PLAYING DVD OR BLURAYS where you register your bluray program of choice in the WMC start menu via registermceapp.exe but so far that is only a theory, and I haven't tried it.

I have tested powerDVD 15 too, but my 30days trial is expired and i cannot buy licence for version 15. Cyberling offering only licence for version 17. And version 17 does not have WMC plugin :(

WinDVD can play BR discs directly from WMC?

You could try https://www.ebay.com/p/CyberLink-15-Ult ... serReviews. That looks really expensive, and its hard to be sure about the authenticity. I also have some PDVD 15 files you could try to modify and get to work with PDVD 17.

I also use PowerDVD 15, but ran into a couple of issues:
1. Could never get the settings right to have it switch to 24 frame for BluRay and back afterwards. Thought I had it working once though. It usually stayed at 60 frame refresh rate and bogged the CPU down trying to do frame rate conversion in realtime, resulting in jerkiness.
2. Arrow keys on the remote didn't work for Title menus, ended up having to open the on-screen button navigation to get the movie to play.

Because of these I stopped buying new BDs. upscaled DVDs look pretty good most of the time (110" projection), or streaming HD from Amazon.

@Trupik

TMT did disappear a few years ago. I still use TMT6 for all my BR's. Works fine, put in a disk, TMT opens by itself, use remote, hit play. As I recall there was a plug for WMC, but I never got that working correctly.

PM me. I will upload a copy to a file share for you if you want.
