Where to reload WMC for Win8?

#1

Post by BasiliskPie » Thu Apr 14, 2016 11:37 pm

With many positive experiences posted for running a modified WMC under Win10, I finally upgraded from 8.1 to 10.

Eventually, I gave up trying to get Win 10 to recognize my Ceton InfiniTV4 drivers (which tested just fine with Ceton diagnostics). Just now I've backed out to 8.1... however, WMC is no longer found.

Can anyone provide a link or method for getting the media pack containing WMC-8 so I can re-install it? Thanks!

You need to "Add Feature" and supply the WMC Key.

Assuming you re-loaded to Windows 8/8.1 Pro, click on Start and type 'Add Feature'. Click on the add a new feature option and then the button to add a new key. Supply your WMC Feature Pack key and after a couple minutes & reboot, you're back in business.

Brilliant! The only catch was I had to DE-INSTALL it, reboot, and INSTALL it again.

Thanks so much... it recognized the tuners and seems on the path to DVR'ing again!

PS: It remembered my Key so re-entering it wasn't needed.

I think Microsoft patched windows 8 so we cant download WMC. I have a media center key but cant find the add features link in windows 8.1 anymore. Is there anything else I can try aside from installing a bootleg version of WMC?

I watched the video you provided the link to. After you clicked on "System" you left control panel

I just installed Win 8.1 Pro on a virtual machine & the link is still there. Do the following

1) Go to Control Panel
2) Change "View By" (Top Right Just under the "Search Control Panel Box") to "Small Icons" or "Large Icons"
3) Click on "Add Features To Windows 8.1

Its not there for me. I will research why and report back if I can fix it. "Add Features To Windows 8.1" not listed on mine.

Since you didn't mention the version, it's only in Pro, if you're not using that it may explain it.

Don't go bootleg. If you get anything, get the real thing,

I am still struggling with this. I tried doing factory restore within windows and the add features option was not there. I reinstalled windows 8 and add features is there on 8. going to try 8.1 without any updates and see if I have luck.

What version of 8 are you using (Home or Pro)

Can you post a pic of what you're seeing under Control Panel ?

Using 8.1 pro. I was able to reinstall WMC after a fresh install of 8.1 with no updates. Thanks
