Extender Configuration Error with Xbox 360

#1

Post by big_al5 » Mon Mar 09, 2015 8:40 pm

Got a new Computer and upgraded to 8.1 Pro with MC, from 8.1; with Microsoft help. Media Center works fine for watching and recording TV, cable card, etc. I have an Xbox 360 that worked fine with my old computer, also 8.1 Pro w/MC but I get "configuration error" each time with the new system. The Xbox shows up in networking as a device?
Any ideas greatly appreciated. My security is Norton 360 and Malwarebytes.

Try removing Norton 360, Reboot and try again. sometimes antivirus software can wreck havoc with stuff like this.

Also make sure you delete any previous extender connection from the Xbox and PC itself prior to making a new connection.

To remove an Extender connection from your Windows 7 computer: (Should be the same/similar for Windows 8/8.1 with WMC)
1.On your computer, open Windows Media Center by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Media Center.

2.On the Windows Media Center start screen, scroll to Tasks, click Settings, click Extender, and then click the Extender device you want to remove.

3.Click Uninstall, and then follow the instructions to remove the Extender connection.

4.If you're using an Xbox 360 as an Extender, use your Xbox 360 controller to do one of the following:

a.Scroll to My Xbox, select System Settings, and then select Computers.
b.Select Windows Media Center, and then press the A button.
c.Select Disconnect.
d.Press the B button repeatedly until you return to the System Settings screen.
e.If the Xbox 360 console has a hard drive or memory card, on the System Settings screen, select Memory.
f.Select Hard Drive, select Games, select Xbox 360 Dashboard, and then select Windows Media Center.
g.Select Delete, and then press the A button.
h.Press the B button repeatedly until you return to the System Settings screen.

Extender instructions came from here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... =windows-7

Yes; I disabled Norton Anti-virus and firewall.

no. He didn't suggest that you disable Norton, and he didn't ask if you disabled Norton.

Did you remove Norton?

Did this ever get resolved? I'm having the same issue. Tried everything above and tried what I could find on the Microsoft web support. New build. No antivirus software. Windows firewall completely disabled.
