I'd be surprised if we see Netflix in Windows 8 since neither MS or Netflix support the MC version anymore. Keep us posted.

Have you tried to install the Win7 version? First install Silverlight 5 (http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/), then install the Netflix plugin (download Win7 version here).
You may need to reboot after installation. Post back and let us know if it works. No harm in trying.

I thought there was no way to install Media Center for Windows 8 RTM until October. Are you playing with pre-RTM Win8?

The Netflix plug-in still exists in the Windows 8 RP version of WMC, and works the same as before. Though I suspect it's not being actively developed, I still like it as a Netflix client. Are you saying it's not included in the RTM version?
There is also a Metro Netflix app for Windows 8 announced, though obviously that will run outside the WMC environment.

Well being that I live in Canada have never had the netflix app and was hoping that will Windows 8 and it being more centred around tablets that us lowly Canadians might actually rate enough to get a netflix app that works . So was was just wounding if it was available yet and if so how do you get it. But it sounds like the version that might work for me is still in the works.

I think it is great. If it works well with a remote I may actually move my HTPC to Win 8.

It actually looks pretty slick, good to see that it's updated.

Wish this would be available to install on MCE on Win 7. I like the current one but this is super slick. I am really impressed at being able to snap it to the side and watch a small version while you do something else, even on a RT tablet. This feature alone really renders all other tablets nothing but a toy.

remote work?
Would be nice if someone/company could come up with a bit of software that would allow metro to be controlled with the remote.

I just thought to ask...
Is this a MC app or "metro"?

It is a metro application. Tommo asked the important question - Can this be used with a remote? If not, can we remap the remote so it could be used (i.e. is there a way to do everything with a keyboard).

use autohotkey with this code to navigate the Netflix metro app with a remote:
https://gist.github.com/holgate/01d73c6ac33ab4b6d66f
INSTALLATION INFO
1) install Autohotkey
2) in Windows 8.1's Search, search for "Change the Size of Apps on the screen" and set it to "Larger" to make it legible from a usual TV-sitting distance.
If your display isn't set to 1920x1080 pixels you'll likely need to modify the coordinates.
If you don't want to change it to "Larger" (because this setting effects all Metro apps), just uncomment the coords in the script just after this comment:
Code: Select all
For 1920x1080px displays, with "Change the Size of Apps on the screen" in Windows 8 set to "Default"
4) run Netflix metro app and try pressing the LEFT/RIGHT keyboard keys as a test
NOTE: If you don't want to use autohotkey application, you can convert the code to a standalone .exe instead

Well, it sorta of works. I didn't have "Larger" under "Change the Size of Apps on the screen", I only had "Smaller" and "Default". I left it as it was and uncommented out everything like you mention above (I actually deleted the setting under larger and uncommented out the defaults). I am able to scroll around the first screen shown but cannot Page right. It also seemed to lose it's mind after a short time and I couldn't select anything.
Did I do something wrong?

What's your display resolution? The script is set to work on 1920x1080px but can be adapted to other resolutions. I don't see "Smaller" as an option on mine so I assume your setup is different to mine.3rob3 wrote:Well, it sorta of works. Where in Netflix are you having issues paging right? The navigation method on the top-level / home screen is different to the way it navigates on subpages.3rob3 wrote:I am able to scroll around the first screen shown but cannot Page right. The first screen that shows up after launching Netflix is full of "tiles" of recently played, suggestions, etc. To the right you can see more items and with a mouse I can scroll over, but with this I can only scroll around the first page.
Yes, I am running 1920x1080p. Are you all up to date with updates?
