New HTPC: DRM channels HDHomerun
Hello-
I'm sorry to bother, and believe me I've read the entire web, it seems. Kinda confused.
Was under the impression that Win8.1 would still allow me to record DRM shows from my HDHomerun Prime and show them through an XBox 360 extension.
Got WMC up & running, PlayReady is running, and I can see the un-drm channels (like the locals and ESPN) but not the DRM channels
Heck, HDHomerun View won't show any live tv - not even the non-DRM channels.
I've run through many of the standard fixes, such as loading and unloading playready. removing caches and reinstalling. I've freshly reinstalled things. Tried drivers.
of note, I get the copy protected note even on ESPN when I first turn it on, and sometimes have to minimize then enlarge to get it to show the channel.
So I"m wondering.... Is this my cable company (Cox) putting a "don't copy "on their drm broadcasts? Is it the software? Do I need to go to Win7? Would it be any different?
My main desire is to set up a Home DVR so I don't have to bend over for either TIVO or the Cable Company for their players, with their planned obsolescence.
I really thought win8.1 pro still allowed to record DRM broadcsts and play them over the xbox360
thanks for your help...
Chris

Did you run the DCA? DCA is up in the Extra's. AKA Digital Cable Advisor.
Which version of the HDHR-3CC software are you using? I use the old one....Fall 2015
After thinking about it for a moment.....Your issue is likely with the HDHR Version or in the HDHR configuration.

According to my cablecard the firmware is 20170930
I definitely ran the DCA as part of the install, otherwise I don't think I could get ESPN.
But the fact that the WMC can at least punch me up the non-DRM stations but the HDHR Live viewer can't even do that does seem to validate your suggestion.
Is there a way to find the older firmware and flash it?

Might just be a config problem with your existing firmware.....go through hdhr config and hdhr settings thouroughly.
different firmware is always risky.

Learn something new everyday. This works. Go over to the linux download area. Right click the link you want, then copy link. Paste link into a new browser window, then replace the 20170930 with 20150826

You are not allowed to downrev firmware on SD CC tuners. They will claim that violates the rules for CC devices. If you are on 2017 firmware you can't go to 2015 firmware.
