Slight skip in fast forward (x1.4)

Hi Folks
I've been using this WMC for years and had always thought I had a "feature" that I actually now think is an issue.
When I playback at x 1.4 fast forward, it works fine but jolts forward a frame every 2 or so seconds, I can live with it, but it is not ideal. I thought this was a "feature" until I recently used another laptop as an extender to play back a recording from the WMC. The recording worked seamlessly at x1.4 on the laptop (source was my WMC), no frame speedup every couple of seconds at all.
Anyone got any suggestions as to where to look for the issue?
Over the years I've always regularly updated drivers and software where possible (although I don't think I have any WMC specific hotfixes loaded).

oooooooo, 29/59 frame rate switching comes to mind.

It seems to impact all channels, but only during fast forward and not normal playback. How would I check if this is the issue?
