Windows 8.1 + MyMediaCenter

#1

Post by Juggler77 » Sat Oct 18, 2014 4:21 am

I am running Windows 8.1 and have an Infinitv 4 PCI card installed. I am not using an extender but access WMC directly from the PC. I am trying to use My Media Center to control WMC. I am able to connect to my PC through the app. I see all the recorded shows and scheduled recording. However, the remote control does nothing. When I click on a recorded show the app say playback will start momentarily but nothing happens.

I have tried installing the beta build of My Media Center ver. 13.27.7.1361. There was no change.

This is the diagnostics from My Media Center running on the PC:
Running tests
Microsoft Windows NT 6.2.9200.0
OS type: x64
checking to see if cdatasvc is running
Running, everything looks good here.
checking to see if yammmsvc is running
Running, everything looks good here.
checking to ensure proper communication exists for apps
checking to see if valid settings on http://127.0.0.1:5832/
valid settings
Settings received from My Media Center v13.10.28.1276 on PAULS-DESKTOP
Communication tests success.

I don't think those versions work. See the end of this thread for some versions known work:

mdavej, Thank you for attempting to help me. Unfortunately, the version of MyMediaCenter you have suggested I try ( version, 13.2.26.1062) only works with Windows 8.0 and I am running Windows 8.1

Did you try it? Most 8.0 programs run fine on 8.1.

It was actually a message from the installation of the program that said it required Windows 8.0 and then it aborted the installation.

I'm running Windows 8.1 x64 and My Media Center 13.12.7.1361

I have no problem having the My Media Center online Remote Control controlling, either my Xbox 360 Media Center, or Windows Media Center on my local Windows PC.

The My Media Center Windows 8 app does not playback recorded shows, or live television. The remote only controls an open and running instance of Windows Media Center that is already open.

Is this what you are wanting/expecting?

At the top of the My Media Center "Remote Control" menu, I have the option to select either my Windows PC (lists my username) or my Xbox, ie "Mcx1-computer name"

Toggling between the two switches control from Windows Media Center to Xbox Media Center Extender.

I found the solution. I needed to enable Remote Desktop on my PC.
