Soft Blurry Playback using WMC

#1

Post by Protos » Sat Nov 12, 2011 5:55 am

Hi all,

Fairly new to htpc and trying to get my image quality up.
As the title says I am experiencing soft/blurry playback in wmc. I do not notice this softness in vlc or even wmp (yes I know the default player is wmp in wmc)
Does anyone have any insight ?

I am using the newest klite codec pack. Is there a way to change the default player in Window 7 Media Center to media classic or Home Theater or BEST of all VLC ?
Also I would like the ability to turn off subtitles ect ...... basically I just really don't like the player fuctionality and am looking for more control withing media center interface.

Any and all help offered to this newbie greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Peter

Have you tried using Shark codecs? http://www.shark007.net/

Thanks for the reply Scallia.

Not sure how much a different codec pack will help, but Will give that a go.
Is there a way to enable the wmp context menus in windows media center ? In particular the zoom size/full screen controls.

I'm not sure about the context menus, but check out the list of WMC keystroke commands:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... -shortcuts

Also, please provide your video card make/model and driver version.

CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 250
Memory: 8gb 1066
Video Card: Ati HD 5670 latest drivers 11.10 + Avivo Pixel Format RGB 4.4.4
TV: Samsung 8000 LED
Remote: Harmony One
Keyboard: Iogear

HDMI straight into the TV, SPDIF into the AR

I love the 1080p output on my television from wmp or just about any player, however wmc seems to 'soften' the picture slightly from a standard player.
Also notice differences in web content. For instance when using the netflix plugin in WMC the image is not as sharp as when played in my browser. Its almost like there is a light 'transparency' over the player.

When you did the tv setup, config display, did you select Tv or Flat Panel? Tv mode will enable overscan correction as well as possibly overlays (I think). Also in the ATI control panel make sure sharpness is enabled. Try setting it at about 15-20. Also check the box to apply settings to internet video.

Sorted !

Thanks to all who offered advice. Turns out it was a bad driver that would not properly uninstall. Had to strip out motherboard and gpu drivers, clean and then reinstall them minty fresh.
Playback now is almost identical in wmc as in stand alone players. Very happy.

I will for sure check out Sharky's pack to polish it off.

So glad the green button is back.
