Playback stops on video error

#1

Post by Nich_Hustler » Tue Sep 24, 2013 2:08 pm

Hello,

So I am new here. I've been using WMC for a while but in the past few months I have been getting errors on some files. I'll be watching a video file and at some point it will stop and say "cannot play file". If I play the same file in VLC or XBMC at that point where media centre stops, the video file has a small error.

On VLC or XBMC for a moment you will see some pixelation and artifacts on the screen and within a couple seconds it corrects itself. WMC seems too sensitive and just stops the file. I've scouring the net for hours trying to find a solution to no avail (perhaps my search terms suck).

I really don't want to switch to XBMC, but it seems the only solution for my htpc right now.

I would be most grateful to any help.

My pc is a Intel Core 2 Duo laptop at 2ghz with 2gigs of ram and an Nvidea 8400m gt gpu. I'm also running Shark007 codecs on Shark defaults.

Thanks.

1st, Be sure that you have not installed software from Divx
Then . . .
In the Shark007 Settings Application,
press [Reset All]
select the [x] SUGGESTED settings checkbox
Retain your sanity, use Shark007 Codecs

I had no DiVX software installed. I did as you suggested and it didn't seem to help. I still have the problem as described above. Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Sounds like the files themselves may be your issue.

On my tools page is a software called Metafox.
It will extract the contents of most containers (m2ts, flv, avi etc) and place them, untouched, into an MKV container.
It will also extract from an existing MKV and create a new MKV using the original, untouched contents.

Give that a try and see if these newly created files will play properly.
