Green diagonal line

#1

Post by guppy » Sun Apr 21, 2013 4:48 am

I use FFDShow and Haali Media splitter on both pc's, you can read all about it in the sticky in this codec/encoding section.

My Den computer plays all mkv's fine on a computer screen. The Den is accessing the mkv's thru the network from the Media room's pc. All files are stored on the media room pc. But a couple of the files when played on the media room's pc which is displayed on a 70" flat screen, show up with a green diagonal line across the screen. What is causing this green line? How do i fix this?

Does the line appear if you play the files on the media room PC using VLC media player?

What I was implying was, install VLC Media Player as a test and play the MKV file. If the green line appears in VLC media player, then you most likely have a hardware issue. If it does not, then the issue is likely with WMC.

so I installed VLC and it plays the MKV file just fine. So the problem is with WMC. How do I trace it out?

So when I play the movie "gravity" I get the diagonal green line. How do I tell which codec is being used and how do I remove it?

You should be able to use graph studio next to see what codec is being used when you play the file. http://code.google.com/p/graph-studio-next/ Have you considered LAV filters instead? https://code.google.com/p/lavfilters/downloads/list You can change filters/codecs with this http://codecguide.com/windows7_preferre ... weaker.htm
Be careful with this tool though I would suggest you make a system image of your OS drive prior to tweaking any settings. There are a couple links below to the HTPC.net that have some good info.

EDIT: Links Updated for more current info.

Some good info on LAV http://www.thehtpc.net/htpc/new-media-s ... block-lav/
And here as well http://www.thehtpc.net/htpc-tips-and-tw ... subtitles/ (< This link is especially good)

I switched from Haali to LAV awhile back and have had very good success thus far.
