mp4 playback poor under wm7 but fine with divx player

#1

Post by raphaelfreeman » Tue Mar 06, 2012 2:51 pm

My setup is Windows Media Center under Windows 7. Recently I have been watching mp4s and noticed that the quality was very poor indeed (avis are great). However, if I watch them in DivX Player, they look great!

However, I want to watch them in wmc because of all the advantages (mainly my remote control).

What codecs will solve my problem?

Blocky playback in media Center. With the divx player it's smooth.

What Video Card if any are you using? Is it onboard video or a seperate card in the PC?
Are you up to date on drivers and directX updates? http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35
I use the Zune software on my HTPC and it has built in suport for .mp4 (microsoft codecs this allows you to play .mp4 in wmc and wmp as well as zune). My .mp4's play super smooth.
I also have a seperate video card as well nvidia GT430.

If you are using DIVX, go into the DIVX codec settings.

Under Advanced Settings try setting setting the various options like Hardware de-interlace and Use DXVA Hardware accelerated playback when available. Currently I have all the options turned on in the DIVX codec not sure if they all are really need though.
