How to change codecs only for ripped DVD?

#1

Post by fabien44 » Sun Jan 15, 2012 1:49 pm

Hello,

i have my ripped DVD with native structure (VOB files) in the Films section of WMC7. The current codecs are from Microsoft.
I would like to change for ffdshow but only for my DVD files. I have also MKV, AVI, Divx videos but i don't want to change for them.

What the procedure to do that?

Thanks in adance,
Fabien

I think Win 7 Filter Tweaker is what you need. Take a look at this article:

The built in MS DTV/DVD codec will be in use, I can't remember if changing the TV codec also changes the DVD playback codec (as opposed to plain MPEG2 video file playback) - you may find that MCDU might help if Win7DSFilterTweaker doesn't.

In fact, i would like to keep MS DTV for TV playbak and change only for DVD for audio. What are codecs used by DVD for audio?

The MS DTV/DVD audio codec is used. I think you might need to change the TV audio codec (I could be wrong though).

If you want to keep the Microsoft MPEG2 decoder for your TV content and use a different decoder for your DVD rips, you need to rip your DVDs to a different format. You can't rip them to MPEG2 (VOB is just an MPEG container, not its own codec). MPEG2 is MPEG2 regardless of source.

How do MediaCenter software like MediaPortal to set proper codec for TV and proper codec for DVD? How can they distinguish them?
