Can someone explain why messages that I reply to get put into my OUTBOX and not sent immediately?

Messages are delivered and moved to the Sent Items folder the next time the recipient logs into the forum.

I looked up this process a long time ago and it's when the message is read by all recipients it leaves the outbox of the sender.
A handy read receipt feature.

Does the recipient get a notification in their personal email that they have a PM here? (before they come here and log on)

I think email notifications for new PMs is enabled by default.
