I wonder if that's been fixed in Win8? Someone in Canada will need to try it out.Danno100 wrote:In Canada, although we have digital OTA, we still can't use it without hacking WMC.

This is upsetting, although I agree with most that this app never really added much, it still sucks seeing stuff taking away from Media Center. I can only hope that one day Ceton is so Succesful selling the Q and Echo that Microsoft looks up and says "so thats how we were supposed to do it". Hopefully Ceton will have some native apps, improved netflix and things like Amazon Instant. If there was a box that could do everything Media Center and my Xbox xould do in 1 (natively not the split experience on current xbox) it would be an amazing device.

upsetting? I don't think so, it was uselss, low resolution video, unmaintained and generally crap.
Glad to see it go.
My bet is we see them replace it with the Metro Xbox-like apps for Xfinity, HBO, etc......
Problem will be is they will be in Metro not in MCE

I'm assuming that some Windows Update will come along that will remove the Internet TV icon and the channel 9000+ stuff from the guide. However, since I don't allow Windows Updates to install on my HTPC, I guess I'll just have a broken app there. Hopefully, there will be a way to manually apply the update to remove Internet TV without having to load every Windows Update for the past year or so.

Do you use Media Center Studio or something like that... or is there a setting in Media Center to disable it? I don't think I want to mess with something like Media Center Studio... changing DLL files isn't something I want to do.STC wrote:Or just remove it from view in the strip. I do that now.
Also, what about the "channels" that show up in the guide in the 9000's?

I'm not sure if it is possible to hide the internet TV tile without using something like MCS or MCE 7 Reset Toolbox. I disabled the 9000 channels in the EPG long ago...just disable them like you would any other channel.

When Sky was removed last year it was a guide download that removed it. Just as it was a guide download that added Sky and MSN Videos in the first place.

And it's a guide update that removes Internet TV.

Perfect. I didn't have to do anything to get rid of it.

Why? you need a pc for gaming. gaming on a mac is not goodDanno100 wrote:Another indication that Media Center is dying/dead. Once the EPG is gone, there will be no reason to hang onto any Windows PC in my household......

Looked at BIG SCREEN EPG for $20 per two years. And SCHEDULES DIRECT for $25 per year. Both as suggested.
Is this the only way to go when Microsoft stops supporting MCE(Aka WMC) and the EPG?
Overall make me want to consider a whole different platform application for a home brewed DVR.

You've got the wrong tense. "Will this be the only way to go if Microsoft stops supporting the EPG (in the US)?"Chicken Little wrote:Is this the only way to go when Microsoft stops supporting MCE(Aka WMC) and the EPG?
You've provided two alternatives, so obviously, neither of them are the "only way to go". If/when Microsoft stops funding the current Zap2It EPG in the US (I presume Zap2It isn't providing the EPG for free out of the goodness of it's heart), then the use of a 3rd party EPG will still be an option (as it already is for WMC users in areas where the current EPG isn't good enough).

My path out of the circle of chasing an EPG solution is to try out BEYOND TV for $99. It has an EPG built in and has technical support to keep the EPG up to date. Instead of spending hours and hours trying to reinstall MCE to make corrections, just install BTV and be done with it.

But you cannot access or control Beyond TV from an XBOX 360. In order to access your content from BeyondTV you have to have a full PC at each monitor. With WMC, I can have 5 XBOXs scattered about the house besides the TV where the lone Ceton InfiniTV 4-equipped PC is located.
It was painful at times, but there is no match to the utility once it is configured. You can get an XBOX for ~$120 on eBay. Get a Harmony remote (before they stop making those as well) and you are set!
