All of my channels are copy freely, so I'll have to give this a try.
Hopefully Live TV is coming soon.

DRM support remains the key missing feature. While the Plex interface may provide some advantages (if/when the DVR support is integrated into Plex), there are already several other alternatives to WMC that supports non-DRM programming.
If Plex can add DRM support, then this could be something of greater interest (though adding DRM support seems unlikely).
SD has omitted some features that have been possible with WMC - such as the program guide grid or commercial skipping (using DTB). Will Plex's DVR provide more functionality than SD's DVR and be closer to a WMC replacement?

Why no Ceton support?

If Plex is using SD's DVR software, and integrating it into the Plex interface - they only support SD's tuners (which makes sense - since SD wants to sell tuners).
I've used tuners from both SiliconDust and Ceton - and both companies have provided quality products and provided quality support.
At least SD is trying to bring an alternative (which is not the same as being a replacement) to WMC to the market.
Ceton appears to be dead. The last information posted by Ceton is from May 2015.

Are they integrated though? I'm not convinced they are. The SD platform would have to be a prerequisite if that was true. I hope you are because that would allow us to schedule recordings when not at home, and watch them as well, but I'm afraid they are separate products from each other. I'm not convinced that they "speak" to each other.bob_p wrote:If Plex is using SD's DVR software, and integrating it into the Plex interface - they only support SD's tuners (which makes sense - since SD wants to sell tuners).

After more carefully reviewing the Plex DVR info - it does appear that it isn't a tight integration, since Plex claims they may add support for other tuners in the future (Ceton?) - plus they are using Gracenote guide data - not Rovi. So this appears to be much more than just a front end to SD's DVR software.
With the clock ticking on Comcast's H.264 switchover in our area (which will likely break our WMC/Xbox 360 environment), we'll likely have to move off WMC in the next few months. The Plex DVR is missing some major functionality - live TV (with buffering), DRM, program guide grid, commercial skipping, ... And if we have to switch in the next few months, our only option may be to invest in a TiVo Bolt and several Minis (with the less acceptable fallback being rental of Comcast X1 DVR/STB boxes).
