I don't know anything about XBMC, though I believe it must be accessing the Flash stream. You can do this in Media Centre with TunerFreeMCE, but as I said above, I couldn't get that working. Honestly, don't put yourself through the pain of trying to make Media Centre do something it's never going to do well. Spend ten pounds and get yourself a NowTV box.

According to the XBMC plugin's webpage, the plugin accepts the following formats:512x288 H.264@480Kbps, 640x360 H.264@800Kbs, 832x468 H.264@1500Kbs & 1280x720 H.264@3200Kbs

Can Windows Media Center not play H.264?

Is there a way we can amend the MCE app's code to use the same streams?

Media Centre can indeed play h.264. The XBMC plugin uses libRTMP, which pulls from RTMP servers, which in this instance means Flash. I dare say some clever soul could update/write from new a MC plugin. I'd give it a good look if someone did, but I still don't think it's worth it.
