Echo $99 at Newegg

#1

Post by Jay » Thu Nov 28, 2013 3:27 am

Don't shoot the messenger, but Echo is on sale at Newegg for $99. As an extender, I have not had the issues others have been reporting, but I don't try and stream my mkv files to it, I have Xbox for that. These are fine for the kitchen and guest bedrooms for me. I'll probably pick one up as a spare for when the Dma extenders start to fail.

I know people will be flaming me for this, but who cares? Whoopie... a flawed device for $99 when you can buy a new XBox 360 today for $179, and $99 on Black Friday.

The Echo had problems with plain old recorded TV for me, and I'm not alone.

No flaming from me, each has their own experience and opinions. As I said, no issues for me. Had I the problems others have reported, I would be singing a different tune i am sure.

As I said, I have the Xbox as well and use that on tvs that I do a lot with. For spare tvs that needs a small footprint device and low power usage, these meet the requirements. Heck I loved the DMA2100 except for that blinding blue light.

Bartender......I'd like to buy a round of "flaming" dma's with a side of regedit for the boys, a small serving of WAF for the girls, and for myself gimme another half dozen Echo's.

Echo's latest trick, and don't even ask how that's possible, is displaying the FX3D channel (aka 3DNet) http://www.locatetv.com/listings/comcast-3dtv , in true 3D without a hickup. Also, 3D recorded TV works fine.

I've enjoyed my echos. They've paid for themselves after a year of use (no cable box rental fees) and offer a better experience than my clunky Comcast boxes. $99 to me would be worth every penny. An Xbox is nice too (which I also use for one TV) but it draws more power, is louder, and takes up more room. So there are downsides to it if all you want is an extender. I was disappointed in no Android, but then not wholly surprised. Having worked in software development a long time the pattern of vaporware was pretty evident in the echo android pipedream.

That's just not right. You go out of your way to help Ceton with the beta. Pay $179.00. and end up with a doorstop. Why didn't you return it when you had the chance?

What the heck. I'll give the Amazon Prime a shot and return it after Christmas if I'm unsatisfied.

Scored a $99 Xbox 360e 4gb on Amazon Gold Box last night, so if the Echo works at least for TV, my extender needs are met for a while.

There's nothing special about that. The cable companies broadcast 3D in side-by-side or top/bottom. Either way, it's just plain old 1080i or 720p. The magic happens inside your 3D TV, that's where the conversion from SBS or top/bottom happens.

Combined threads clarification: The Echo is also on sale at Amazon (Prime if you got it) and the price at both Amazon and Newegg is $99.99 shipped.

I was wondering how that worked. I've only had this 3D crap for a week or 2. I expected Echo to puke.

There must be different Echo batches, some work, some don't. Whatever I throw at these 2 that I got, they just deliver. Then, there are other people that have nothing but trouble. I wish someone would come up with an explaination.

I believe the DMA also does the 3d pass through to the TV. Too bad not much content out there in cable land.

Any extender should be able to handle 3D side-by-side or top/bottom. There is no difference, from the extender's perspective, between 2D and 3D content that is sent by the cable company. The cable company does not send frame-packed 3D, like what you get on a 3D BluRay movie.
